Is this truck a pretty good deal http://humboldt.craigslist.org/cto/1952892423.html? I'm lookin to get a truck asap and this is one of my options. Isn't 6 inches too much of a lift? I thought after 3" of lift problems start to develop over time, any truth to this? What you guys think?

run a history report, and see how many miles are on it. Look for signs of bodywork as well.

$9k for a dc 4x4 with what looks to be some money spent in it. No way. I wouldn't sell my 4x2 for that little.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.

I don't see a problem with 6" lift it it's done right It doesn't say what brand of lift or who installed it that would be my first question about the lift.

As far as the lift goes, it looks like there's a bit of a body lift on it, so if I had to guess, I'd say 3" of body and 3" of suspension to get to the 6". Not necessarily a bad thing since the body lift does give you more fender clearance for larger tires with out any trimming, but still... Maybe its a bit more than 3" for the body lift. No clue.

It really depends what the other part of the lift consists of, how many miles, and what other features are there if its worth the money or not. The body lift itself really isn't worth anything to add to the resell price.

He's just mentioning the rake on it (back end higher than the front) I think, although I believe is pretty close to the factory angle for a 4x4. For some reason a lot of people dont like the rake.

That many miles isn't necessarily a problem. It just depends how well it was taken care of. Personally, I'd be a bit on the careful side with that much lift, as others have said, its not a problem if its done correctly, but I'd be cautious about any other upgrades that might have been done as well, but again, not a problem if done right.

With that large of tires, it probably should be regeared to 4.56 or 4.88, so probably feels a bit sluggish now. If you're ok with it how it is, thats fine and it wont hurt anything, but regearing front and rear (assuming 4x4) is pretty pricey but will give you a bit more to the wheels, at the expense of higher rpms at highway speeds.

It really just comes down to what you want. I'm not a fan of the body lift, but if you wanted 6" with out replacing the cross member, that is the way to do it.

Any idea about the engine in it? If it has the 3.4, make sure the Timing belt has been done very recently, as thats recommended every 60k. If it hasn't been done, expect to spend another $500-1000. Aside from that, just the normal maintenance stuff with any other vehicle. Make sure the 4x4 and locker works as well.

Just remember that when selling things like cars, people post a price expecting to be talked down a bit, so keep that in mind.

Wow thanks alot for all the info that's exactly the kind of reply I was hoping for. He said its a rancho suspension lift and the rest is stock except the stereo. And I assume its the 3.4 did they come with n e thing besides that for the dc? Dnt think so n e ways. I can just remove the body lift too right n run 32's or smthin...but jw how much would re-gearing cost about? And thanks again man really appreciate everybodys help I got screwed over for my last truck, 01 frontier that's just a yard ornament now...

Some d-cabs came with a 2.7l 4 cyl. If that one has the 4, it better be re-geared or it will be really gutless with those 33s.

I would question the validity of the TRD claim. If it has the v6 it has to have the TRD e-locker or its not a TRD.

In my opinion, a Tacoma is not a TRD without the e-locker but there are a few trucks on this forum (d-cabs with 4-bangers) that are actual TRDs, though they are all equipped with auto trannies.

Really not sure about the engines available in a Double Cab. Pretty sure the majority of DC are Auto Trans, but then again, I haven't really looked it up either. I'm with Digiratus though. If it doesn't have the rear locker, it may be called a TRD (even from the factory with the 4cyl), but it just isn't one.

Regearing isn't cheap. If you're thinking of lowering the truck and putting on smaller tires anyway, it really isn't a concern, and even if you were to keep the same tires on, its really just a judgment call if you want to regear or not. If you did, you'd get better mpg and power at lower speeds, but less mpg at highway speeds. So, I'd say it more depends on the type of driving you're going to be doing more than anything else, and if you need the low speed power or not.
