cant forget. his trucks going to be like that for 6 months now

i do believe crud on the threads when reusing bolts is what leads to inaccurate torque readings which in turn leads to bolts lossening. if your going to reuse bolts its good practice to chase the threads with a rethreader (NOT A DIE)

I didn’t realize you had to replace them when I did my 4WD swap. I did that a long time ago, this was December 2016.

private property is private property anywhere in america.

 

I cant remember who it was who suggested I replace the bolts when changing out the LBJs. I know they mentioned it was more of a failure point than the ball separating. Good advice though - cheap enough, just replace along with the LBJ.

 

ultimately more than anything improper torquing is the main culprit here

not all of them - he is talking about San Francisco though. Always there.

 

you have to becareful with loctite. it throws readings off. i dont run it on the LBJ bolts. factory didnt. so i dont

 

It’s a big city, James. Every large store I’ve been to has security in the parking lots or inside the store. Security guard came up to me while I was inspecting the truck and asked what the deal was.

If you’re in their lot past business hours they will not hesitate to tow you away. They don’t want you doing work in the lot for liability reasons.

 

good advice. I may just order new ones and swap them out with no thread locker this time. Used blue last go around.

I think there is so much stigma surrounding LBJs that its just a scared shtless thing and everyone wants to use thread locker. Hell, I've come across posts here where someone says to red loctite those things.

 

I don’t think you guys understand they would not be OK with me working on my truck on their private property right before they closed.

 

I’m not playing what if. The truck is home, and I made the decision I felt was the most appropriate.
