Thanks. I know what you mean about the dirt bike. I only ride mine about once or twice a year, but am keeping it in case my daughter gets into MX when she gets older. She's only 14 months now, so it will be a while.

It will fit with the tailgate down. However, the weight on the tailgate when loading may be an issue. I hauled my Thruxton that way. It has a dry weight of around 506 lbs. Loading/unloading was a bit worrisome. Granted, my ramp was at a pretty steep angle, but I was more concerned about the stress on the tailgate. I definitely recommend a trailer if you have one.

The Daytona is not the most comfortable bike to ride, especially for taller riders. However, of the two, I think it has a more usable power band for street use. There is also something about the sound of a triple that is just pleasing to the ears. The R6 is more comfortable & reliable, but does not have as much low end torque. It is definitely the better track bike... It really boils down to intended use and ride-ability. Check them both out in person before making a decision.

My wife and I hope to trailer up to said mountain roads and ride eventually.

The Tail of the Dragon (https://tailofthedragon.com/) is a great ride on weekdays (it gets too crowed on the weekends). Over 300 curves across an 11 mile stretch. I definitely recommend checking it out if your in the area.

We've thought about that. I just see way too many videos of people that think they are on the Isle of Man racing for TT glory. My wife has been, years before we met, and said there were so many yellow line crossings by moto's and cagers. She has no desire to go back. She was probably there on a weekend.

Between Franklin NC and Highlands NC I remember there being a fun road. My wife had a Hyndai Veloster around 2013 and we drove it on that road. Then from Highlands to Dillard. We would also like to check out the roads south of Knoxville TN (not necessarily Gatlinburg) and between Murfreesboro TN and Crossville TN. Some really neat roads there I remember from when I lived in the Boro. Of course these would be multiple trips but hopefully we can get around to it at some point.

I go on a fairly regular basis. Many, many other roads there are just as good if not better, but going to the Dragon is like a bike night. See what's there, hang out, see some exotic stuff that sort of thing. if you go May through July check out the special fireflies in Townsend, they are synchronized. Only a few places on earth where they do that. Make sure you at least ride the Blue Ridge Parkway & Cherohala Skyway. Do a little research on ADVrider.com and you'll find the others you shouldn't miss.

Very true about the left of centers... Lots of great roads in Western NC. I am sure you'll have a blast no matter where you go.

I thought the dragon was a little overrated. Maybe i just expected more. It was fun if you got to get on it, but overall traffic sucks and cops patrol the area.

I was there at the end of the season so it wasnt even stupid busy.

I watched a guy dump it in the right hand ditch in front of me though. Not sure what he was doing. Target fixation i guess.
I liked the skyway a lot. Theres a ton of good stuff to see in that area.

Buy and sell bikes as a hobby all the time. Here are a few of my favorites from this year

For the “Dual-Sport” bike, around Teleco Plains and Murphy, NC is a great area. We are closer to Asheville and good riding all around. Ping me if you need info.

Nice! Back in my early 20's I went to Murphy for offroading and camping. Some wicked tough trails around there. We met some really nice people that lived in that area.

129 is a fantastic road! I won’t ride there, too dangerous. I loved it back in the early 80s before it was all smooth and “known”.

Ohhhhb i see what you are sayin. I might just get the r6 ....it’s cheaper and I doubt I will need an Öhlins suspension or quickshifter.

So good, best all around motorcycle on the market today. The big GSs can really do it all.

    Thanks!

The truth? I knew what it was before I bought it, so no sour grapes, but I'll be honest.

The R9T platform itself is great. The engine is fantastic, great power and tons of grunt. Not superbike power, but easily accessible and usable power. You can get on a back road and snick it into 4th gear and have a great time between 30 and 100mph without shifting. It sounds like crap because it's a flat twin, sort of an aviation drone, but the torque curve is Amarillo flat, it just has grunt everywhere.

The R9T plain and simple is a city bike, for EVERYONE. BMWs are typically very tall. Most of their riders are OK with one toe on the ground. Logic tells us that when the ground is close by on a motorcycle you have to put your legs somewhere when you "retract" them. On a cruiser you put them forward, on a sport bike you put them behind and on tall bikes such as a dual sport you can put them straight below.

As mentioned previously the R9T is made for everyone. The seat is very low so I can flat foot it easily with both legs, and someone with a 26" inseam (short women) can get one foot down easily.

The racer has crazy high and rearward controls. Perhaps more extreme than any other bike on the market, but still my boots and pegs drag in every corner. The bars are really far away, like R E A L L Y far away. 38 inch arms would be best. I have 36 inch arms and I can reach, but it is a stretch. The suspension is OK, but much too low for any real backroad work. The brakes are the same as on lots of other BMWs, conventional mount Brembos. At first I scoffed because they were not radial mount, but then I remembered they are the same that is on my old 1200 Adventure, and they work great.

Lots of people raise the bars and drop the pegs, but I typically ride bikes stock.

So it is not a good back road ripper, and it is certainly no track day bike. What it is? It is a sexy looking, vintage café racer style, urban poser bike.

It was 0 percent interest for 5 years and a stupid big discount because no one will buy them. You would hate life if it were your only motorcycle, but since I am fortunate enough to have a few bikes I do not have to press this into service very often.

The HP GS that also appears in this thread, is better than the R9T Racer in all aspects, even when being ridden 10/10ths as a sportbike.

Still, its a pretty bike huh?
