Mileage for a 2016 Limited

Hi all

New to Tacoma world. Just here to get some advice. I’m about to pull a trigger on a 2016 Limited, lots of extras and it has about 68k miles, private seller.
I can get a new SR5 for about 3k more, of course + fees, etc. How many hands for: yes get the limited.
Slightly worried about the higher mileage compared to zero if I got a new SR5.. kinda like the limited features

 

New SR5 gets my vote for the price difference. Yeah, the Limited is nicer, but does it have an extended warranty? What's the history of those 68k miles?
Do you need to finance? Better rates on a new truck?

I'd get the Limited.

My Limited has 42k miles and has been great.

 

If model choice is not an issue, look at the bottom line for each deal if financing.

 

Personally I’d go for the SR5. Slap on some leather seats for a few hundred bucks. I don’t care too much for dual climate control, blind spot monitoring etc.

If the limited is in good shape, might try to get a few $$ off.

 

mileage is not an issue with these trucks

check the interior for wear and tear and under the truck

drive train will be fine the plastic and leather will not

Can you live without some of the things the Limited comes with?

 

This may piss some TW peeps off (I don't know why), but early 3rd gens had a few teething problems. Most of those have been corrected since the launch in the fall of 2015.

Not bench racing here, I bought a '16 OR in Oct of '15 and it had a number of issues - mostly annoyances, none that left me stranded.

I now own a '19 and it's better out of the gate than the '16 was. Just saying because the used truck OP is looking at is a '16.

Now, you '16 owners - don't get your panties in a twist. I didn't say your truck is garbage, and you very well may have had a trouble free truck. Good for you!

 

SR5. Or do it really right and maybe find a good deal on a new Sport.

Yeah man, I'm sure the majority of '16s are great. Mine was a bit of a ginger lol.

Having said that, I still enjoyed the hell out of that truck!

Good info here. I was worried about it also being a '16 with some of those small issues that MOC221_ mentioned. I can definitely live without the options of the limited but this guy already put pro wheels on it, a pro grill, roof racks and expensive tonneau cover, things I won't have to spend money on to replace on a new and they add up. I'll keep you guys updated, will take a look at it more thoroughly today.

 

Go on the longest test drive that the owner will allow if you're thinking about the used truck. Take it on the highway and find some grades. Try the cruise. You may or may not like the way the transmission/throttle is set up. Some people love it, some people do not. Get a feel for how these beasts work. Power band is 3500 rpm plus on a stock V6. Put your foot down and see.
If the owner had his ECM updated at the dealer (via TSB), you'll probably be fine.

Edit: Toyota has updated their ECM calibrations several times since 2015. I can't speak directly for the auto trans, but the M/T calibration was definitely improved. My '19 drives much better than my '16 did.

 

2016 was the first year and the most buggy. hard pass. But if you want the "features" that you cant add yourself then go for the limited just seems like a high price to pay for 4-5 years of driving included with the truck

 

I'm sure the 16 is a fine truck, but getting a brand new one with a full warranty is hard to beat IMO for similar money.
In 3 years, one will still have a full warranty, the other will be 7 years old...

Yeah, aftermarket stuff is nice, but you can add whatever you want, when you want. All the things you mentioned already on the truck can be found here in the classifieds for pennies on the dollar. I wouldn't let a cover and wheels sway me.

 

Don’t forget no power sliding rear window on the 16’ model.

Lol, I never thought I'd care, but I do like the power slider.

My '16 was an access cab so you could reach that window from the driver's seat.
