1st frost at valley bottom level this morning. Yesterday a north front blew in, and our lake was a wee bit choppy. I was out on the lake as a search team in a kayak looking for a missing fellow with mental health challenges. He liked to frequent marshes, bird sanctuaries along the lake shore, so two of us paddled along the lake, looking under docks, and paddling into the marshes. It was sporty out on the lake with 40mph winds, 3-4' waves. Chose a sit on top kayak for this adventure. We paddled upstream on a local urban creek for a ways that was close to his residence as well. He's been missing for three days now, but police found out he was spotted in the local soup kitchen, so that was a relief. Did not want to make it 3 fatalities in a row in the last 2 weeks.

 

True. You folks can keep your mass casuality events. Usually our wilderness/urban SAR events involve 1 to 3 folks at a time. Darwin can be picky at times.

Had an inappropriate moment on the weekend. The lineups for the free helicopter rides for gals was getting rather long. Was talking with the two ICs in charge of the event process, and offered that one line could be for the helicopters, the other for the ovens. They both turned and stared at me, and all I could offer - it's the german in me, we find solutions, Then went back to work. Good thing the two of them know me well.

Yep, we had a cold front yesterday too. It got down to 70° F. Almost had to break out the jacket.

 

Tip turned out to be unreliable. Back out today covering urban marshes, creeks that he likes to go to and are high risk, as well as hidden from public. Out tonight yet, doing the back alley behind the dumpster checks in 2 person teams. Not looking good, its gonna freeze again tonight.

 

Damn, I don't want to like this. I can't imagine what he is going through. Bad enough to be lost when everything is good mentally. Hopefully someone will be able to find him and get him to a warm place. Good Luck.
