Even after all the negative I've read here, I still want one. Am I crazy ?

Issues??? I have 6 friends with Tacoma’s. Sports, 4WD sports, and off roads. None of us have had a problem. I’m the worst with my battery needing to be replaced at 2 years and 40,000 miles. The rest have had nothing.

Buy the new one or get a 2019 at a discount if you don’t care about the lighting

I went through the same logic. Browsed on this forum for over a year and convinced myself to just look for a 2nd gen. Ultimately, I decided on getting a 3rd gen anyway, found a used 2017 and love it!

This is the nature of enthusiast forums, I went through the same thing when I had my VW TDI. Every day there were threads about how the sky was falling. Just have to take it all with a grain of salt and form your own opinions not just take everyone else's word.

Quicksand is one of the nicest colors by far.

Seeing that you do not need to haul logs I would recommend a 4Runner.

Wish they had made first gen double cabs with a manual transmission...

I remember a few guys doing a Manual swap on 1st Gen DC's, they turned out pretty good.

Yeah I did some research on it when I looked into it and it didn't look too bad. Honestly if I was going to take on a project like that it would be to drop a manual in an FJ80.

Test drive it then decide. Make sure to take it on to the highway. Mash the gas pedal, mash the brakes. Alot of complaints about the AT but i think it drives fine. Could it be more responsive? Probably. But it's a truck not a sports car. Buy a MT if you don't like how it shifts. If you are tall and need to fine tune the seat, if you absolutely need android auto or apple car play, and want some cool looking LED's then check out the 2020. Lots of complaints about the earlier models not having those options. Just be prepared to pay upwards of 40K. I'm short so the seat sits fine in my 2019, I can live without the android auto and apple car play, and i will wait to put some LED's on or just stick with stock. Plus you can probably get a deal on the 2019's.
    Nice profile pic. I have a 66'

I’ve had a first gen, 2nd gen and did a few sports sedans in between...nothing compares to my 3rd gen. Absolutely love it. I have a tendency to “grow tired” of the same car everything 3 years it seems like..bad habit I know...but look forward to cruising around in my tacoma more so than my BMW M-sport 335i I had prior. The bimmer was fun for sure, tons of torque and power, responsive steering but holy hell it would rattle going over any bump and irregularities in the road. Hated getting in and out of it (I’m 6’3”). The taco is such a more inviting cabin feel and has the rugged prowess to take anything I feel like throwing at it. It’s just nice to be able to cruise down the road and not feel like everyone wants to race me. I know it will get me from point A to point B no problem. Solid and dependable, couldn’t see myself every wanting anything more because I’ve accepted what it is...a mid sized pick-up truck .
