Thanks Crash, for talking me out of the stock Philips racing and into the super Brights, with the headlight service harness. I originally ordered the super Brights from Amazon, through DC auto vendor. They screwed up my order and sent me a complete different bulb and different manufacturer. I got pissed that the bulbs wouldn't be here, when I got the harness. So I end up ordering them from the eBay listing from Lithuania. I figured I would have to wait for them anyway and Gamble to see if they were legit. I installed the harness. Super easy and very high quality. So to my surprise,I got the bulbs today in the mail. I ordered them 7 days ago. Really fast shipping and they look legit. They also packaged it very well, with there local Lithuania news paper. How much is this upgrade running you guys? Harness and new bulbs. Anyone do the ultimate headlights and the ultimate fog upgrade? Cost for the fog light upgrade? I've got a set of vleds LED bulbs in my truck now that are "Designed for reflector housings" but I'm not impressed with the output on dark rainy roads. The led light just can't fight the fog and rain like halogens can.

So the setup is approx $135.

I've got a spare ultimate fog harness I can sell for cheap if interested. Unless you need the halogen heat or extreme wide angle, I recommend Rigid Selective Yellow LED replacement fogs. They are coming out with a new even higher output version due out this month, which will mount in the OEM fog position. The full replacement J583 SAE LED fogs do a better job of glare control than OEM.

Is there another option for Amber fogs besides the rigids? The whole square light in a round hole thing drives me nuts and looks terrible in my opinion. I like the morimotos but I don't think they make a Amber option.

 

I recommend selective yellow for fogs that are used in poor weather over LED white, but if wanting white the 5000k KC G4 is the way to go. Selective yellow also provides the hottest LED lens for some help in resisting icing, but not at all to the level of halogen.

Good thing the new Rigids are round, and mount in the OEM location. I’ll have them shortly and be posting a review in the LED fog thread.



Morimotos are available in Amber. See my review in post #551 here: Morimoto Amber. But if if wanting true amber the KC G4 ambers provide similar intensity but much larger area output. However, the selective yellow output is far brighter and more useful than amber output from either of those, and with this headlight mod it largely blows out the amber fog output as it just isn’t high enough intensity, so you get a little fill in with amber in the corners of the beam. The selective yellow Rigid’s though supplement this headlight mod very nicely.

Note that some confuse amber and selective yellow, as some vendors like Baja advertise their selective yellow output as amber when it is not. The colors are very different, and true selective yellow is more effective in providing visibility than amber.

 

So the new rigids will be selective yellow? What exactly is the difference between those and Amber besides the coloring? Lots of great info here thank you

 

oooooh the new rigid setup looks like a winner. As soon as you review I’ll make the call on KC or Rigid. (I do prefer selective yellow over white and don’t like amber)

 

Check out my comparison in post #356 for the KC Amber in the SAE fog thread for side-by side color examples. Selective yellow will allow you to see a lot more contrast which is important for driving, amber is going to be more monotone in the color visibility. Selective yellow is also much higher output than amber.

The new round 360 Rigids will be available in selective yellow and white. KC has an outstanding 5000k white, while Rigid's white in the past has been too high color temp and a bit blue. Rigid says they have improved the color temp in these, making it warmer, but I don't have the spec. I'm sure it is improved, but I suspect it isn't as good as the 5000k white offered by the KC G4s. I'll be testing both the white and selective yellow versions.

 

I just purchased some headlight vinyl for my headlights. I plan on wetsanding and polishing them first.

Does anyone know if I can apply a wax/sealant to the lenses before applying the vinyl film? Will it stick? Just trying to apply as much UV protection as possible.

 

My experience is waxes etc negatively impact any adhesive.

 

X2. If applying a film, you want as little surface contamination as possible to promote good adhesion. And kind of wax/sealant surface application will cause the film to not properly ahere to the lens surface and lead to premature failure.

 

Appreciate the advice. I've been told that I could apply a wax/sealant OVER TOP of the vinyl once its installed. That way it has good adhesion but its also protected.

Possibly depending on the products used. The more layers you are putting on your headlights though, the more you are going to diffuse the beam focus. The vinyl protection layer will fully protect the headlights. At some point the vinyl with degrade and need to be replaced, but the headlights under it will be still protected. You can replace the vinyl and have them look like new again.

 

I’m probably thinking what your thinking. Lol, but I’m gonna wait and see what you come up with first. I’m thinking along the lines of some sort of juiced up hella 500’s and mesh.
