Where’s the bass?

In post 13, I noted I had the RCA’s reversed and that switching it back helped but still isn’t going as deep as I want. I’m exploring other box options now, as well as considering going without a sub if I can’t get (or can’t afford to get) a setup that plays low enough and saving the weight.

I’ve never had a sub fail to play as low as I expected it to before, but that’s going back to hatchbacks with aftermarket decks and larger boxes. My first assumption as the head unit, not the sub but that appears to have been wrong.

 

If I see your set up I can offer advice. I've got killer bass with 1 sub and no amp. Something is probably wrong with the design of the sub box/system.

 

A vehicle's size and design can create a situation that requires out of the box thinking. If the system's designer has limited creative ability then overcoming problem areas will be difficult. There isn't a vehicle that's been made that can't have great bass. In the interest of the vehicles that this forum caters to great bass can be had behind a seat and still allow full movement of the seat. Under the cab or under the bed where you'll not lose any useful interior space. In the bed. In the doors. Under a seat. Combinations of the above can also be used. Limitations aren't the vehicle, they're created by the design of the system.

I've got the same amp

$219 KAC-M3001 600W Class D Monoblock Compact Digital Car/ATV/Marine Certified Amplifier

KAC-M3001 powering a small TSA-2500LB but it doesn't get low at all. Mid bass is ok but doesnt dig in the least. Using high level inputs wired to the fronts.


I've never had a 10" sub shallow or not, in any box sound like 6x9s before!

 

What kind of HU do you have? Have you set your LPF & gain correctly?

 

Stock Premium non JBL HU for a 2023, yes my crossovers and gains are set correctly @ about 75% of the stock HU's volume, orginally set using 1000khz -5db and 50hz -5db tones for the doors and sub

I just noticed that the dude who started the thread might not be on here anymore.

 

i would recommend looking into a bass restoration processor. or something like an audiocontrol lc2i/lc7i with the same integrated functionality.

just remember that with what you're doing, you're still working with the factory radios integrated eq, which is tuned specifically to make the door 6x9's sound better than they are, but is not something that would ever make a real subwoofer sound good.

 

Are you using a loc for your amp inputs?

 

No LOC. The RCAs are wired per kenwoods instructions. I’ve soldered and heat shrunk them and they are connected correctly polarity wise. If I flip the rcas going to the sub over to the front channels, it sounds as it should!

I’d thought so too, that the factory eq is causing it to roll off but everything I’ve read here says otherwise….
