My transmission had the weird hunting and revs up and down go away around 8k miles. Now it drives like a dream.

S4 and ECT on all the time. Linear pressing of the skinny pedal. Have fun in the 4-6k power band. Don’t let the engine noise scare you.

nothing. Just let it learn your driving style and it will figure itself out. Also I wouldn’t use ECT button like others say. That’s mainly for towing/driving up inclines such as mountain passes.

I know it's expensive after paying for the truck, but redoing the gearing will make this problem dissappear. It moves the gearing into where the powerband of the engine really shines, with no more bogging and better towing, highway travel(gets, and stays, in 6th gear), and reported improvements in fuel economy as the tranny isn't searching all the time.

That's a phenomenal price! I'm getting the 4.88s done later this month and it's running just over $3000. Where in the country are you located?

Who buys a 4cyl automatic and expects it to get on down the road? You made your bed, now lay in it. I'm pretty sick of personal responsibility being thrown out so someone can whine and complain that they made a bad decision.

It's the #1 selling truck in it's category. You're the problem.

He said 3.5.... if there was a 3.5 4cyl option, I’d buy one in a heartbeat lol

What you're talking about is like a poor man's manual transmission. Doing that much moving might as well have a manual.

Honestly we are currently trying to trade the truck in or sell it. Probably going to be buying a certified pre owned F150. The main reason is I have a 10 month old now and rear facing car seats are a joke in these trucks. My wife is 5'0" and her knees are in the dashboard. That coupled with trying to fit a german shepherd in the truck and as well as wanting a bigger boat.......it just has to go. The boat I have now is a 14' aluminum Lund with a 25hp and gear. I have no clue how people on her are okay towning some of the things they do with this truck. Towing a 20' open bow with an inboard V8 seems like it would be a BITCH of a time unless your dragging it 5 miles down the road to the launch and never travel with it.

How about a 3.5 that already has twin turbos and 475hp?

In the summer 1-3 weekends a month. Depends on weather for fishing boating. Also my in laws live on the other side of the mountains 5hrs away and we have a baby so go visit them about every 6 weeks. The Tacoma is not a great road trip vehicle even not towing lol

Honestly the Tundra was never even on the radar. My wife really hates how they look and the Tacoma is her daily.

We wanted something smaller to do light off roading in as well but im just going to buy a new truck and pick up a 70 series LC for fun.
