Wow, that's hardcore! Looks like you got good use out of those skids, I really like the red. That place is on our bucket list to visit one day. Too many irons in the fire and not enough time in a day!

After I buy my chop saw next week, I’m going to build a desk chair and maybe barstools for my wife to practice on tubing. Then it’s game time for the swing out.

Nice. Something I didn't do that I wish I would've spent more time with is welding tubing joints for practice. Get you a notcher and just fit a bunch of tubing together and get good at welding it that way. Its a lot more difficult than just welding a straight line.

 

I built my swing out and thought I would use it a lot, but I don't really use it.

A notcher is almost a must for tubing, makes the joints much nicer

 

Only reason I have mine is because its my only real way to carry a spare without taking up ground clearance or my bed space. And I definitely don't want to put it on my roof. Realistically though, if I had a good enough tire repair kit, that would get me out of most situations since I've got my compressor.

Ah. Square tubing is easy to work with. Just gotta make sure its all flat when you weld it. With that saw though, you'll get some really crisp, square cuts. Fit up is awesome when you cut angles with it. I assume you're getting the Makita?

I know it is. That’s why I won’t be going round tube for a while at this point. That’s next on the list though

 

Gotcha. I'm about to feel the cost of that Makita. Gotta replace my blade. Had a few times I made some awkward cuts and jammed up the saw, broke a couple teeth. Now it cuts a little rougher. Blades are almost $100

 

I was looking at them on Amazon, definitely not cheap. I went ahead and bought a wood blade for the saw for an upcoming project.

 

I am sick of the tire being under the truck and surprised it hasn’t been cut yet. Need my bed space for camping, so swing out is the only other option

 

i like the wilco deal where you take the tailgate off, idk unfortunately there's no good place for a spare without significantly increasing length and weight of truck.

Also question, a chop saw uses the disc right or do you mean a band saw that has the chopping action. Why one over the other?
