I know that's why i said band saw, i should've worded better my question was why one over the other?

 

Band saw would be better suited for metal tubing. Chop saw can cut wood and metal, but band saw would be better at the metal part.

 

Its called Chamblee Mill bridge there use to be a gristmill there. I have part of the grinding stone used in it. I have it in one of my flower beds, it's a piece about 3 feet long and a foot thick. They are a lot of steel bridges in Blount County and still 3 wood covered bridges.

Yeah it makes room but the more I camp the more I see I always over pack, lol. It is nice when you offroad but I found mine was just in my way when I wasn't. I made mine to be removable when I wasn't offroading. Then one day I just never put it back on and I found I don't really need it. A lot of people use them and love them, it was just not for me I guess

 

you and I are the longest tenured members and I can't think of a time that we have had a mod come in here for anything other than us requesting them here.

 

How much extra weight does a swing out setup add?

 

Yep I found it then We'll have to make time to get up that way and do some exploring.

Depends on how you build it and what you build it with. Mine weighs maybe 50 pounds but also depends on what you hang on lt too. I added a fold down table too made out of aluminum. Then the weight of the wheel and tire, jack, fuel...

 

I had that exact bandsaw. It will cut straight if its set up right and your blade is new but quickly becomes a nightmare when blades snap and/or cuts begin to wander and makes crooked cuts in material. I was referring to a Makita Cold Cut saw, not an abrasive saw. Mine uses carbide tipped blades and cut similar to a wood chop saw. The cuts are always square to the cutting surface and prep is minimal before welding your newly cut joint.

 

It has spring water that feeds it about two miles up stream and it is the coldest water I have ever been in even if its 95 degrees out

Thanks Jeff, was just curious to how much a swing out with spare would weigh. Not as bad as I thought!

 

Loaded up they can weigh 200+ pounds, depends on what you hang on them

 

I definitely always over pack. I usually have my wife and 2 dogs in the truck on camp trips.

Building it myself, I won’t have too much money into it so if I don’t like it for whatever reason I’ll weld it on somebody else’s truck and make money off of it.
