@Uphillshunter what grease did you use when you reassembled your manual hubs?

I've got errands to do so the truck will be neglected today; at least while I'm watching a movie later I'll put the hubs together.

Thinking of pulling the axles out of the spindles.

Next week, sliders get burned on!

 

PNW is most expensive in the country for some reason.

 

For as long as I have been around the gas price has never been below $3.

 

Back in my day........when I first started driving around 16 I could fill up my dad's 1998 F-150 for $1.20/gallon.

I think there's been one time since I was about that age that I've seen prices in LA county dip to under $2/gallon and it was sometime in the past 10 years, I remember there was a short lived dip in gas prices for awhile.

At least the crazy pice hike has seemed to plateau in CA right now. The local Arco I fill up at has stopped at $4.31/gallon for 91 about 4 days ago and hasn't risen since. Just waiting/hoping for it to start going back down now.

 

btw @BartMaster1234 did you damage anything else when your LBJ gave up the ghost last night? I wasn't able to follow along very closely when all that happened in the thread

 

For what happened, it’s a miracle. Imagine if I was on the interstate.

It snapped as I was pulling out of my parking spot, I thought that clunk was my u joints. So I drove 50 feet into the intersection before I got death wobbles. Luckily I was right before the Safeway driveway and pulled back in. Two bolts snapped, one was missing. One was still holding the wheel.

The tow truck driver drove it on. I noticed the only damage was the rim was scratched on the inside lateral surface.

As he was unloading it at home, he snapped the last ball joint. Luckily he was going slow. We got it off the wrecker with a jack.

 

snapped the last ball joint...you mean the last bolt? Unless you somehow blew all 4 upper and lower ball joints in one night lol

I've had my LBJ bolts in/out several times lately on the driver's side from doing my goddamn CVs so often lately.

I know the LBJ bolts aren't torque-to-yield so they are technically reusable, still makes me feel kind of nervous. Meant to pick some up from the dealer the other day but didn't get there in time after work.

I always do them at 59 ft# and use blue threadlocker but I have noticed that the thread locker gums up the threads when you remove the bolts. I spent a good 20 minutes last time cleaning the threads with an exacto knife before putting the bolts back in. Dunno if it was needed but better safe than sorry I guess

 

I know some people here in southern CA that would cry if they saw that happening. We had a pool growing up in one of our backyards but only used it maybe twice out of the year lol. Such a high cost of maintenance and upkeep for something that rarely gets used as much as people think it will

Take some light color nail polish and throw a thick line on all the bolts to make sure things stay tight

 

Ahhh forgot about that.

 

Noisy front and rear end; fortunately I was able to remedy the front end by pulling out my Whiteline bushings and using a whole tube of Superlube. I will report back in 6 months to let you all know if I hear any changes.

After trying different lubes/sprays on the rear, I found Red N Tacky to work best on the plastic pads between my leaf springs.

Last item to address is the bushing that OME presses into their Dakar leaf pack which @GHOST SHIP says he fixed by replacing it altogether.

Now I'm left with several cans of nearly-full lubricants.



PS The first one is used for your significant other's rear end, and I don't mean your truck

I've yet to use the stuff in the little boxes but it looks promising; thick as hell and I may use it on my LCA bushings if the noise ever comes back.

 

Yeah I have a paint pen that I use to mark them, I'm less afraid of them backing out and more afraid of them just plain breaking. I broke one by hand once just tightening it and it wasn't even fully torqued. Granted I think that was just a bad bolt.

 

I think they break after one of the bolts falls out, the other three can’t handle it.
