I’m just going off what Dan said. He said the new Toyota bolts come with pre-applied thread locker from the factory.

uhh mine sure didn't lol. Although I won't discount the theory, god knows Dan has more real life experience with this stuff than I do, I just think it's too hard to say for sure that's why they failed. People use blue thread locker on them all time. But it's possible

I know for sure I torqued them to spec during my swap about three years ago. However I’ve neglected to re-check the torque since.

I think he's right. Going to replace them and not use any type of thread locker. If you notice, even the FSM doesn't mention it.

At the end of the day I think this is the only thing we can all agree needs to be done regularly to make sure this doesn't happen - for whatever reason it might

Yeah that’s interesting. There’s a few different types of bolts I believe, you can order Ball joints that come with them and you can buy them by themselves.

When I ordered from Gary I bought the bolts separately, however they came in the same sealed factory bag. I’ll have to check the part numbers when I get home.

I did read it, lol. I already said that I agree with Dan. They are cheap enough, I am going to just replace them.

Starting with the Civic I worked on I started marking every fastener I torqued. I haven’t wrenched on my truck since I made that a habit.

Toyota doesn’t state to use thread locker. Not saying it’s a bad thing. You just have to adjust the torque to make up for the thread locker. There’s a chart somewhere that says how to conpensate

Good to know, I'm going to look for that chart..I admit I didn't realize that was a thing (it throwing off the torque reading). Maybe I've gotten lucky over time, the one thing I don't like about using the stuff is that it dries up in the bolt threads and if you reuse the bolts I feel like that can make them more likely to back out (maybe?). I cleaned the threads on mine before reusing them though.

Toyota will sell the bolts with thread locker applied if it is required,

Clean threads on the spindle and the bolt are the most important thing when it comes to proper torquing. Shit in the thread throws off shit.
You learn a lot about how toque is affect by things after working inside engines

Rethreader kit or use a wire brush on a drill.

I used an exacto knife to clean the dried up loctite out of the bolt threads
