I'd pay MORE for a great auto like a ZF 8 speed. Otherwise, no reason a manual should cost more than an auto.

It was a custom shift knob made by HouseoSpeed a couple years ago. They used collector pins to make them.

I wouldn't pay more for an MT Tacoma even though I just ordered one because I wanted a manual truck. I did pay more for a manual Trans Am and would again only for my next muscle or sports car.

There's also a Sport doublecab in manual that has the PVM, that I was just made aware of. Weird inconsistencies between the cabs and trans options.

Sorry for my ignorance, is that what it's for? I'm a new truck owner and I was wondering. But they probably could've had the same function with pressing two buttons instead of one button and a key.

Yes that is what that switch is designed for, however some guys also use it to start the truck without having to depress the clutch.

Even though the manuals are priced lower you are still relatively paying more. When you pick a manual over an auto you are forgoing touchless entry, push button start, JBL sound system, crawl control, ECT, yada yada yada. Still worth it to me.

All that being said, people who are drawn to the manual are part of a niche group. For me, the manual is what sealed the deal (I would be hard pressed to turn down the 4Runner if they offered in in manual).

Additionally, with only 5% production and manuals across the board dropping left and right you have to strike while the iron is hot and enjoy them now because who knows how long they will be a viable option. If they are discontinued, I see a last minute scramble to get the last new year and people holding onto the ones they have for awhile.

When I bought my truck in January of 2016 the salesman laughed when I tried to haggle. He said if I don't buy it it'll be gone tomorrow. Where I live MTs sell fast and dealers don't budge on them. MSRP might be less but they won't negotiate on them. I technically paid more because I could have negotiated a AT for less.

Never understood the appeal to have a manual in something thats not a fast car. Ill take the auto all day long.

Wouldn't object to the touchless handles when I'm carrying my 18-month old and all his crap and trying to get everything in the truck. I do still enjoy the process of turning my own key though. the sound quality could improve, but there are superior options to the JBL setup.

I will never buy a new or used truck with an AT. I grew learning on MT and have owned both. For me an AT is contrary to just about everything I enjoy about owning a truck (particularly diesel).

With today's fast cars an automatic is faster than a manual anyway. I like rowing my own gears

I don't think it is unrealistic as many here think so. Toyota still offers and sells everyone the MTs in this gen truck and has recently released newer vehicles with their new IMT Trans. The new Corolla hatchback has the new 6iMT here in the US even. I read an article where Toyota said they could release the IMT into more of their vehicles. The Hilux I believe also is currently available with their IMT that auto rev matches for downshifts.

Why would I want to only drive fast with a manual? What about engine braking and proper gear selection for pulling hills with a trailer behind you? What if I enjoy driving calm and relaxed with the 6MT as a daily driver? I can go faster in auto and only have to smash the gas pedal.

    Hell no, not me.
I would not buy manual transmission Tacoma, even at a 5k discount.
Those that would.....should, regardless of current discount and/or actual value in the future.
