I get that every time I flash, along with a bunch of other crazy notices on my display as soon as I hit ‘write’. Anyway, good luck.

The "brake override malfunction" ends up being a permanent message with a permanent CEL after the "unsuccessful" flash attempt. the truck is then put in limp mode and remains there. This is not normal as you're suggesting above.

I believe he's just referring to that popping up AS you flash(successful flash). All those messages do pop up on the dash but they do go away once the flash is succesful.

Obviously, if it's staying there and your truck is in limpy mode..that's not normal.

Agreed with everything stated and yes "brake override malfunction" is staying there with the end result being the truck is in limp mode. (ZD Ticket 10472)

Thanks for looking out! I actually already have 2 spare round gaskets from when I installed the URD spec-u exhaust.

The more I learn about these trucks, each ECU / Year is totally different in how they handle the various tunes. I was getting an intermittent Break Override error on 1.5 and 1.5.1 during normal driving conditions. It wasn't until these 2.0 betas came about for that error to go away on my 2019 / 04B31. Hopefully @OVTune has a solution to this new problem for your truck/ecu. My guess is what ever throttle adjustments were done to fix the error on 04B31 is now causing errors on your 04B04.

I'm not sure but I thought the Brake override malfunction on our 2019 04B31 ecu's had to do with the OVtune throttle code and the fact that we have the adaptive CC which acts directly on the throttle. 2017's don't have radar cruise If I'm not mistaken. This is the first I have heard of this as a result of trying to flash. I know you @El Chivo Norteño and I only experienced the malfunction while driving after a successful flash. Very interested to see how this works out. Good luck @perkj .

Edit: Have you checked what the DTC is that illuminates the CEL? Ours was a P2119 having to do with throttle valve positon not being where it is expected to be.

I didn't pull the DTC code unfortunately. Thanks for the clarification on your issue....clearly not the same as mine. Hoping Matt (@OVTune) is able to assist once they look at my ticket as I'm still awaiting a response on it...submitted back on 10/5 (ZD #10472)

It should still be there unless your truck is at the dealership. You can check with the p5 flash utility if you are not a dongle user or of course any scanner will work. Very interested to know what that code is.
    Can you still pull it?

Edit: I see you are a dongler. :D Techstream or scanner then.

Here is where I am with this issue. When I faced this same issue on 16012, @OVTune had me do a Clear DTC, turn off truck, start truck and verify no CELs, then proceed with flash. This procedure corrected the flash of 16012. When I attempted 19800, the first attempted ended with just the immediate "unsuccessful" (no CEL or brake override malfunction message). After a second attempt, the end result was where I got not only the "unsuccessful" immediately but also the CEL & brake override malfunction. From this I performed the same procedure Matt gave me for when I ran into this issue on 16012. After running thru the procedure, the next flash attempt ended with the immediate "unsuccessful" with no CEL/Brake override. I assumed a second attempt would result in the CEL popping up again, so rather than risk getting into that state again I opened the ZD ticket (10472) and awaiting guidance from Matt. As the truck sits now, I have 16012 installed and the truck is running as expected with no CEL and no Brake Override
    Malfunction message.

Below is exactly what I sent to Matt via ZD 10472:

2017 Tacoma Pro Automatic with 04B04 ECU. Stock vehicle.

I attempted to install the latest 2.0 beta today 19800 w/91 oct for 04B04. I’m a dongle user. When PCM Flash attempted install, it ended within seconds with unsuccesssful right after what I believe is hearing the fuel pump getting energized or some noise from under the truck. I tried again and same thing but this time I got a “brake override malfunction” error on my dash and a permanent CEL. I had this exact same problem with the previous octane learning beta build. From that ticket you had me to a Clear DTC, shut the truck off, verify no CEL, and then retry flash. At that time the retry was successful. So as instructed last time I did a Clear DTC, shut the truck off, verified no CEL, and then tried again. This resulted in the same unsuccessful message within seconds...though no brake override malfunction or CEL. Rather than trying again which I assume would likely trigger the brake override malfunction and CEL, I’m submitting the ticket. Clearly there is something going on as I never had this issue prior to the last beta build and it continued with this one. Hoping you can help determine why for the last two beta build this issue is happening and at present preventing me from installing the latest beta.

Have you tried flashing it back to stock, or one of the 1.05 tunes?

Look back a couple pages. The PCM version of 19800 was an error and the link for it has been removed. Do not try to use it anymore...

I didn't see Matt said it was posted in error, rather he just forgot he posted it and accidentally removed it. There has been confirmation of several dongle users having successfully installed 19800 pcm.
