I work at a Mercedes dealer as a tech & find it surprising that you like the GLC's audio system. The Bermester sounds good with classical but anything else is a huge letdown especially for the cost. Downgrade compared to the older Harman Kardon systems they used to put in there cars. My BMW 328 with Harman Kardon Logic 7 system has I think 14 speakers & blows away pretty much anything in the new Mercedes. I wish my Tacoma sounded half as good as my BMW.

I guess my comparison is the TACO factory stuff to the MB. I got a second comment from my wife yesterday when we returned from an hour MB drive and had to take the truck for some errands. Her comment was as before, This radio sounds like sh.......... I have to agree. I never thought the TACO was great but it seemed Ok, at best. After the MB system, it really does sound like sh...... I listen to country and folk music and the Burmeister seems to have pretty good reproduction in that range. As a comparison, I still have some floor speaker JBL 166's refoamed, from decades ago that sound great for my purposes. Nice midrange and highs. After many years of flying jets in the USMC I probably can't hear too well anyway. My wife says its hearing, I say its listening. Being a bit anal, a couple more questions: From what I have read, at least the front speakers need some sort of spacers to clear the window mechanism? Is that right? And how do you get at the tweeters? From the top? I appreciate the patience.

The tweeters go in from the top, they use a plastic panel popper and a 10mm socket. for the actual speaker. The Subaru speakers are at the bottom of this thread. For the other speakers I'd personally buy from https://www.crutchfield.com because they will ship with the wiring and speaker adapters.

Bought my Subaru tweeters from eBay because they're plug and play but will be getting the door speakers from Crutchfield for the reason mentioned above.

I just installed the new CS series. It sounds good to me but I've heard the DS has better tweeters and surrounds. I did some dynamat behind the speakers on the outer shell of the door. I still need to do the back wall and probably the inner shell of the door. Are people putting the foam and plastic back on when they do the inside shell?

Get the CS if you ever plan to amplify. If you don't, there isn't much difference. Honestly, they are pretty close in price so you might as well get the CS just in case.

The stock HU amp is actually pretty amazing when you upgrade the speakers and run some high quality audio (CD, premium Spotify, etc.) through it. I was really surprised with just the Subaru speakers. Toyota could have called it a premium system by just upgrading the speakers. Missed marketing opportunity IMO.

I did the Subaru tweeters and the focal pnp. Sounds much cleaner, just needs an amp really bad.

I found a couple of you tube videos to replace the tweeters and got motivated to buy a set to see what improvements that makes. One more questions to those who have done the tweeter change out: do you need to remove the pillar trim? One video did, one didn't. Looks like you might not need to but the fit looks tight with the pillar trim still in place.

I agree 100% but some forums, I guess not here are sensitive to such language and delete the whole post. I spent a number of years in the USMC and heard a few other politically incorrect words.....might have even used a few myself...... Good to know everyone hasn't gone to the dark side.

I did. No big deal. They're easy to remove and reinstall.

Same here, removed both pillars. Super easy switch out. The drivers side tweeter was a bit hard to get unplugged but take ur time. definately get a plastic spade tool to pry up the dash covers. I got one included in a interior light kit and have used it several times since.
