I don't dislike the Ford Ranger, but I don't like it enough to ditch my 2nd gen Taco.

Yea, they are the Baja Claws on the Ranger. They were way too much for the road and extremely noisy but awesome off road. I changed to these KO2'S last year but didnt have a new pic with them mounted on the Ranger. They wouldn't quite fit on the taco in its current form. Lol

I saw tons of Rangers in Australia in August, including quite a few Ranger Raptors. Hilux was still probably the most popular, followed by the Ranger then Holden Colorado. Just my observation.

I want the Ford, GM and even Nissan trucks to be awesome, this is what will spur Toyota onto keeping the Tacoma development moving forward. My 19 has plenty of gadgets, actually too many. What I'd really like are some more powertrain options, including a diesel.

The pretty LED lights are cool, but it is a distraction from the schizophrenic transmission, which is just a symptom of a horribly inadequate amount of low end torque combined with super overdrive.

I know. Yes they are Baja claws on the Ranger. The other pic shows what tires I just put on it. Don't have a pic with the new Ko2s on the Ranger.

Solid looking rig! A guy on base has a 98 that's lifted, wrapped it in real tree camo. Bad ass looking trucks

Not many options when I lifted mine in 99. Doesn't look lifted with the larger tires but its portioned well. I like mine and don't see many lifted. Thanks

I just finished a 4-hour drive in my FX4 Ranger rental. Very quiet ride and the bucket seats were awesome.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
I waited anxiously for the new Ranger for years. Then a 2.3 Ecoboost? Come on! Why not a 3.5 and maybe a 3.5 Ecoboost for us dreamers? The Ranger model will die a slow death unless the engine choice improves.

    Still stock completely capable!
If they put the same 3.5 setup as the f150 I feel they would have waiting lists for that truck lol!!! Mini race truck.

Except Ford will be careful not to steal customers away from the more expensive and more profitable F150, hence the 4cylinder Ranger. A turbo can make it as fast or faster than a lot of 6cyl n.a., though.

I don’t think it’d be street legal with the 3.5 Ecoboost :D but seriously they should’ve put in the 2.7

The ranger engine and drivetrain rips. It’s awesome. I won’t be selling my Taco for one, but the New Ranger has a very powerful motor, sounds good, and you can blow the doors off when you put the pedal down. It’s a very impressive engine and transmission combo, even if the rest of the truck is lacking.

If you actually drove one, you might change your tune. I loved my Tundra, and liked the Tacoma a LOT, always wanted one and ditto on a 4-Runner until I owned one, and rented the other for a week recentley. Just like the Tacoma, the 4-Runner engine is way under powered, and the auto tranny is lack-luster. If you say otherwise, it's because

1.) You may be a Toyota Fanboy

2.) No real-world experience driving all of them for an honest compare.

I honestly have absolutely zero desire to drive one, I don't like automatic transmissions at all and also don't like Turbo's on a daily driver.

That is fair.... I've owned six vehicles with Turbo's and loved them..Subaru, VWx2, Volvox2 and Ford. Always drove a stick too, until the Tundra and got lazy
After years of pinning over owning a Tacoma, I was a little let down. I don't mind less power for better MPG, yet 18 overall in the Tacoma with a tank range of 370miles max was not cool. When the Ranger has far more power, more than the V8 in my old Tundra and is returning 24-26MPG regularly or a range of 430-470miles on an 18 gallon tank, that’s impressive.
