I’ve been eyeing the Bosch 24f agm pep Boys deal. Do you guys think this will handle a warn evo 12k winch ? According to warn it has a max amp draw of 396 amps. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Gotcha. Just looked up the price of the northstar 24 and 27F, holy shit that’s an expensive battery. I’ll be going odyssey as well most likely unless there’s some magic in the north stars...

same quality and tried & true performance. either will be great.

my stock battery straight up died one day. i called Toyota near me and they checked my VIN and said, "wow, you got lucky, you have just 2 days left on your warranty so come in and we'll replace it."

so i thought about my 'luck' and decided to skip the free replacement trouble-maker and get the Odyssey for confidence. the stock battery even when new lazily turned over the motor. the Odyssey is like fire every time. big difference just with that. and, of course, with the big bass stereo i run.

Batteries are commodities refurbished in Mexico. Yields (quality) is average - some new batteries will fail, hence they all have a prorated warranty. The label on the case does not significantly improve your chances af getting a superior one. If you know you will draw it down a lot (a lot a lot) you may want an AGM. Else that’s a waste of money. Get a basic battery with the same ratings as your OEM and replace it when it fails. Flicking lights at start do not indicate a battery failure, only a current draw and voltage difference.

I know others will provide a more emotional response.

I have a 27f North Star in my truck but a different tray was part of the dual battery kit.

But based on the old tray yes it should fit

Nice, what I like to hear!

As I’ve said above (and it’s painfully obvious) I know jack-shit about batteries/electrical compared to the rest of my truck. Is not a strong suit. Let’s get some discussion going if there’s no point in getting a high end battery and can just grab a Walmart one with the same OEM specs.

Edit: I also never said my battery was ‘failing’ because of flickering lights lol. Simply said with the added lighting that maybe my
Stock battery (which many have reported being a total pos) is struggling a bit with the added accessories.

I read somewhere that of all the Batteries made there are only 3 or 4 companies that make them and put different labels on them for the retailer. Having bought batteries for years I can say Costco has the best Warranty out in the market. Most retailers will pro rate your new battery if it falls under the warranty period and that's where they keep you coming back to them. With Costco, if the 36 month battery fails you either get a new battery or a full refund. Can't beat that if you are a member. Right now Interstate is the battery they carry but it's worth the buy. $.02

Like you I don't know jack-shit either although I was taught/trained to diagnose and replace batteries for service reliability. When Delco was making batteries they offered a true sealed lead calcium battery which rarely leaked or corroded terminals. I probably diagnosed and replaced hundreds of batteries while working as a fleet mechanic (mostly Delco 1150, Group 31s).

AGMs are sealed and do not corrode terminals like Costcos and other flooded wet cell batteries do. That factor alone means reliability. And reliability is golden when you are miles off road in remote areas.

Is Costco or Walmart going to pay for corrosion damage to your battery support sheet metal, cables and terminals?

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/dumbdumb-needs-help-with-battery-terminal-issue.632009/

Anyone go thru this training? Btdt

Good commercial fleets maintain their equipment for reliability which means less down time. I try to do the same.

Yes, so far so good. I check on it periodically to see if the battery has moved or shifted. You don't want to overtighten the clamp either as that could damage the battery.

I’m not sure why you’re asking me that Costco question lol. How would I know? I’m not the one who brought those retail locations info the convo regarding warranty. Maybe that’s just your dry sarcasm - but to answer your question no. Obviously.

I believe you missed my dry sarcasm when asking Cudgel to explain why he believes all batteries are made in Mexico as refurbished commodities lol. Of course there’s a reason $300 batteries exist - higher quality/reliability.

Nice creditials though - I don’t think you qualify for not knowing jack shit lol,
You know wayyyyy more than I do
    With those :)

Nah, the Costco jab was for those pushing their batteries due to warranty. What good is Costco's warranty if their batteries corrode your terminals and battery compartment and you have to add water every 6 mos when there are far better agm batteries out there?

Some folks don't mind and that's okay for them. I've spent alot of time giving folks jump starts, push starts and replacing batteries /terminals.

It appears your requirements are strait forward.
    • Cold Cranking Amps for starting the engine.
    • Overall voltage charge for powering your load.
    • Not mentioned if you need to draw power when the truck is not running.
    • Not mentioned if you expect the total energy to discharge beyond 50%.
    • Not mentioned if you have weight preferences etc.
    • Not mentioned if reliability is Paramount.
AGM batteries are pretty well priced and there are few downsides in modern vehicles unless you have other considerations.

    • Some batteries have great reputations like Oddessy.
    • Some batteries are way overpriced for your needs like Oddessy.
    • Some stores are everywhere like Walmart....important if it fails while you are away from home, but near a Walmart, and you still have a warranty.

Hundreds of hours testing batteries in real world conditions. Our testing has the Northstar and Deka head and shoulders above everything else.

Someone earlier said 4 companies make them. At the time we tested it was 7. All the acid is the same. A lot of places stock the batteries empty on the shelf. They have one vat of acid and full all the batteries on display as bought our moved to the front line.
