Has anyone installed a oil catch can in a 2019 Tacoma.

All my sbc race engines I've built have used oil catch cans , pan evac set ups or vaccuum set ups for 20 plus years . With any of these oil control devices you can run better rings which aids in better ring seal

Just the benefit of using a oil puke tank set up can do wonders to an engine

Such as ......


Stop oil reversion into the intake manifold

Oil residue build up on intake /exhaust valves

Removes oil build up and carbon build up on the piston face

You are right in that the oil is there as it's from the inherent design of the engine, but its not suppose to go into the intake manifold and manufacturers do their best to keep it out. Toyota has to duel injection to try to clean it out as they don't want it caking the valves.

I have. The bearings gave up before the gunk caused problems. With newer engines and better gas, it's less of an issue.

It's great you have justified the mod to yourself, most people will never know the difference... they will see ZERO impact of this mod other than the lightening of the wallet. If you or anyone else with this mod can honestly say "Yeah, I probably won't ever notice the results of this mod, but I feel better knowing there is less stuff going through my engine", then great. It's like changing your oil at 3,000 miles.

Has Toyota ever said that was the reason for both PI and DI? I can't find anything saying that for them or Ford. Both say it's because in some cases PI is better and some DI is better. I doubt both spent the extra money to do dual injection to stop a supposed carbon build up issue that won't happen under warranty. Washing of the valves may be a side benefit but not the reason for both PI and DI.

I think Toyota has published about the cleaning cycle of this engine which uses port injection to try clean the valves. They may have not said specifically the cleaning was for the valves but what else could it be for? You are squirting gas at the valves.

Your article is valid and maybe the Wards one is as well? Obviously some different types of info out there.

 

Both of those articles are about cleaning the DI injectors not the valves. They can run the clean cycle (on the DI system) because they have the supplemental PI to cover the fuel needs. Nothing about the PI being used to clean the valves. The cleaning cycle is for the DI system.

Seems cool, should have done it on my old Volkswagen GTI. Don't think I'll bother on this engine unless I'm really bored and want to spend $30 and an hour of my time.

Hey everyone, I posted a video of how I did mine: Please no debating whether you need it or not.

This is if you decide for yourself that you want one. This is how I installed mine. I have an auto as my truck with the DCLB was only available with an auto so I had no transmission choice. Someone who watched the video alerted me that the bolts holes I used are for the manual. I'm going to try to figure something out for the manual to get around the clutch master cylinder. Is there anyone on here that can send me some pics of there clutch master cylinder and its dimensions? Maybe hold a ruler to the height and take a few photos of different angles and give me permission to use that picture in a video? This way we can help each other out?

 

It's a mod that creates risk for very little (if any) return for that risk.

Very few people should even think about doing this. Heck, I work on my own stuff. I built my first engine before I had a drivers license and I don't see the value in it. You just don't get much for the dollars and time to own it.
