so we all know that a 255/85/16 will fit on the stock rims.. however, I just ordered a set of rims

    https://wheelwell.com/shop/method-r...ake=Toyota&model=Tacoma&submodel=TRD Off-Road

    they are a 17x8.5 with a 4.75 backspacing, 0 offset

I am NOT looking to go 33" tires as of yet, I have NO LIFT, and would like to re-gear before going to a 33" tire or larger..

so I am looking at a 31-32" tire as this is my DD (2016 TRD OR 4X4 DCSB) , I go offroad every month or so, see lots of mud, dirt trails, a few rocks. but mainly road time, snow, etc.. I have to be able to get to work and live in Coastal Maine (lots of wet, slushy snow, some ice), MY COMMUTE TO WORK IS ROUGHLY 8 MILES EACH WAY.

so far I've been looking at E load range tires

*265/70/17 Cooper ST MAXX - 31.9" tires 10.7" wide (slightly wider than stock .25")
*255/80/17 cooper ST MAXX = 32.8" tires 10.2" wide (slightly more narrow than stock) damn close to a 33" I know..
*265/70/17 BF GOODRICH AT TA KO2 31.6"tire 10.7" wide (acceptable height, and I've wheeled with these on an XJ before)

Ive also looked at General grabbers X3 red letters... in a 265/70/17 31.6"

any other suggestions? all seem to be right around $220-250 a piece I tend to like the more aggressive tires M/T's, but if i can avoid the extreme road noise I will.. THANKS..

Same wheels with 255/80r17 ST Maxx, 2"/1" lift and stock UCAs. No rubbing but it is really close.

How about some Falken Wildpeak AT3W? I believe they have the sizes you are looking for.

    Check out 255/75/17.
KO2 in that size is 32.05" diameter and 46lbs for a C load.

They have been great for me. Best AT tire I've owned. Fantastic off road and good in snow. You can spin them on wet roads, a common issue an AT or MT tires I've used. I'll get then again if not the ST Pro. I've heard good things about the Wildpeak in snow, but I don't know if they make an LT and I don't know if they are quite as good off road. The Maxx has been really impressive.

Yep, they are ST MAXX. I have no complaints at all. They ride MUCH better than the BFG KO2s they replaced.

This is my understanding as well. although reading online reviews from others has been a mixed bag (tire rack), so had me a bit nervous, any issues with cupping? what pressure do you run on-road at? I am definitly getting E-load ranges, as the roads I go on (golden road, North Maine Woods, etc) are not kind to C-loads, I've just been lucky with mine..

No cupping or abnormal wear at all. As long as your alignment is good and they are rotated properly, I doubt you would would have any issues.

I drive about 50 miles a day on the hwy at 70+mph while commuting for work and they are great. I run them at 41psi front and 39psi rear when cold. At hwy speeds, they heat up to 45psi front and 42psi rear. If I stay at 65ish mph, I get right at 21mpg. The truck averages 19mpg per tank with 20% city and 80% hwy. I'm located just outside of Nashville, Tennessee so there are plenty of hills. I run 93 octane and OVtune.

I ran mine down closer to 32 cold and had a little abdominal edge wear on the fronts. Went back up to 39-40 and rotated and had no issues after.

you think it will rub at 255/80/17, or should i step down to the 255/70/17? with my stock suspension.. looking to go with a billstein 6112/5150 setup next spring lifting 2" with either the JBA UCA's, or ICON delta joint...

They MAY rub. With the 2" lift upfront , its really close while using stock UCAs. I honestly don't know, I installed my lift before the tire/rims.

With stock wheels, I rub just a touch on bumps while turning on the back of the wheel wells on that little nub. If your tires stick out further than stock, then you will rub on turning. Cant say how much. I have not heat gunned anything though.

yeah, I think I'll go with the 265/70/17's to stay safe, not worried about the mud flaps or anything, but would like to keep them if I can, or at least get/make flat ones.. and anything over a 31" tire is an improvement..

Though I want instant satisfaction and get new wheels and tires but as I learned here I'm going to get some new suspension and then wait to see what I can get away with. I thought I learned today that c was good enough and ride better but then I read "
