Please tell me people buy these for trucks that never see the dirt trails. I couldn’t imagine damaging these on the trail and having to replace it. People must be buying these for mall crawlers and such. I’m really confused here. I’ve seen people wheel expensive bead locks on Jeeps which serve a purpose. What’s the purpose of putting these on a Tacoma??? Not trying to start any arguments here, just trying to understand the reasoning.

Design, quality, and weight. Most that have these wheels do go off road, off road doesn't have to mean you rock crawl. I don't rock crawl my truck but I do take it onto fire roads or dirt roads to a fishing hole.

Additionally I feel as though a good amount of those on this thread came from the JDM world. I'm sort of used to spending too much on wheels and have grown to not mind them getting scuffed or abused. The wheels on my track car are long destroyed with brake dust and the wheels on my Tacoma are now getting abused with scratched here and there, but I don't mind at all. I wanted wheels I'd enjoy.

Totally agree with you, before I got my driver's license and a car, I would sit in class and drool over Volk, Works, SSR in magazines. My last 4 cars all had TE37 so that carried over to the Taco too.

Back in the day with all of those magazines was torture! It's sad that half of them no longer exist, and the ones that do aren't like what they used to be.

I bought them for the quality and a company I've recognized as producing a quality and tested wheel. Plus at 16lbs for the te37x and being a forged wheel, its nice. I've had my set offroad and have had a rock knick the edge of the rim with a couple rock chips among the finish.

    Exactly this.

End of the day, its almost the same thing as arguing off-roading your tacoma or using whatever vehicle. If damage is bound to happen to the vehicle or this wheel, its damage.

Im on the forums and taking notes in class.

All the comments makes sense. The weight and strength are great I agree. I ran some lightweight forged wheels on a Mustang that was built for 1/4 mile drag and they definitely helped shave some time. I just wouldn’t be able to wheel a $3500 set of Volks. Not if but when I scratch one my OCD would force me to go buy another wheel. I couldn’t live with it. However if they were say KMC beadlocks that were thrashed I could live with that. I guess to each is own.

I used to share this viewpoint, but it is much more fun owning toys when you let your OCD tendencies slide a bit! My most "fun" care I ever owned was a beater Toyota Avalon because I didn't care at all... I started pushing that logic, within reason, to my Tacoma and M3, and I can tell you it makes it much more pleasurable. While I will never drive the M3 up a snowbank on purpose like I did with the Avalon, I no longer let a little scratch or ding ruin my day.

Have to agree with @jeremy5000 about how you think about it.
Also, aesthetically pleasing forged wheels on offroad vehicles is nothing new. Checkout this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/lets-see-your-vintage-aftermarket-wheels.471365/

I like volks because of their unique style and appearance and also the quality. I have gold gramlights which is also engineered by Rays and they have done me well which is why I decided to order a gold set of TE37XTs just now. Now if I can only get the deal I want on the 2020 VB OR I have been eyeing on...

Mmmmmmmm, super curious what the green wheels would look like on a AG Tacoma. Photoshop anyone?
