Alright we've got some major progress on my gas bill! I'll be receiving credits from my apartment complex for about $180 of my $193 gas bills, and they will be manually adjusting my bills to around $5-10 per month (the average for an apartment my size) going forward until the they get the utility company to come out and check things...apparently that's going to take up to a few months because they don't come out for just one meter.

Maintenance has been coming over and manually checking the meter for the past few days to confirm that it's consistent with what the automated readings that my online account shows...and it is in fact consistent at about 400 cubic feet per day. Maintenance said that when they come over, they have noticed it kicking on every time they open the door even when nothing is happening, so they are make some adjustments to settings on the water heater to see if that makes a difference. So there's still a problem, but it's not my problem anymore since my billing is being adjusted.

The guy at Conservice explained to me that sometimes apartment complex's will put a cap on billing for a particular apartment if it's out of whack with the rest of the property. Me thinks that this water heater has been acting overzealous for quite some time, just burning through gas non-stop, but the previous owners set up a cap with the previous utility company on billing for my unit and never researched or resolved why usage was so high for my apartment. When Equity took over and switched to Conservice for utilities, those billing caps went away and they billed actuals with no adjustments, which is why my bill skyrocketed :notsure: It's just my theory.

If a Busch Light has .7g of protein per beer I'm only about 80~ or so away from meeting my daily protein goal :)
