    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

They absolutely did not fail because of the Loctite. I blue Loctite my LBJ bolts every time. And then torque to spec. I also re-torque those bolts about a week later as well (and have never had them move when re-torquing them)

The torque spec that is given for those bolts probably accounts for the Loctite anyway. (And the fact that the factory bolts you bought, have factory thread locker on them would only re-affirm that). I am about 90% sure the Service Manual specifies to apply thread locker if none is present on the bolt.

I am just reiterating what @Empty_Lord said. I don’t know what really happened.

Nowhere in the manual does it say to apply thread locker to the LBJ bolts.

^^^THIS^^^ is 100% more likely to have caused your problem.

I will re-use LBJ bolts if it's a situation where the LBJs are newer, and I had to remove them to do something else, like make room to remove the shock or get the CVs in or out.

But if I am dealing with an older set of LBJs (and bolts) the bolts need to be replaced. They can stretch and give you an inaccurate torque reading. It's also a good idea to clean the threads in the spindles before installing the LBJ bolts.

You’re probably right. But I know plenty of people reuse those bolts, they’re not TTY and the manual doesn’t say you need to replace them.

I have heard/seen people say otherwise. But I have never bought a set of LBJs that didn't come with replacement bolts.

I didn’t have the foresight to replace them when I did my swap three years ago. However I do know A. I used Loctite, and B. Torqued them to Spec

I have failed, however, to inspect the bolts or the torque since my swap.

No worries brother... I bet you will never make those mistakes again. ;)

    So you learned something.

(Has it really been 3 years since you did the swap?)

Reminder for all those who need it: Backup your goddamn data.

I made a series of stupid dumb-ass mistakes and the worst happened, losing a massive amount of work from the last two years. It was fully avoidable in a number of ways but I let myself slip, and now I get to suffer the consequences. Complacency is the enemy.

To those without power- sorry.. that sucks. I got coworkers who have newborns leaving their homes and whatnot until power is back. Crazy. Hopefully y’all get power back soon!
