Sooooo, recently I determined by vin my truck needs

$145 Denso 234-9001 Upstream Air Fuel Ratio Oxygen Sensor with 10.6” 4-Wire Harness, for Auto Trans Equipped Vehicles

Denso 234-9001. I ordered one from EBay from someone with good feedback. It arrived. See pics. The FN plug doesn’t fit, please see the difference in the pics. The number on the sensor itself says 192400-8000 although the box says its 234-9001. Would you cut and splice the plug from my crappy bosch sensor I had hanging around or go through the bs of arguing about it with the meatheads on EBay? The plug That fits my truck is the one on the right. I am beyond frustrated with this friggen thing. Trouble is if I do cut the plug, they obviously won’t take it back and it’s a massive pain in my ass to send it back in the first place.!!!

 

If you don’t want to send it back, and are going to hack it up either way, can you grind that tab off? Everything else looks the same to me. If that doesn’t work you can splice it. Lots of aftermarket o2’s come needing to have the oem pigtail spliced on.

 

What's more trouble? grinding the tab off or sending it back and/or waiting for them to send you another one and risk it being the same (wrong) plug?

I vote for grinding and leaving a review.

 

Look again, even the connection pins are offset to the opposite side. I am soooo BS

And when I pull up pictures of 123-9001 the plug isn’t what I need, see this pic from Amazon. It’s the same as the one I received which makes me wonder if that is even the sensor that belongs in the fn truck although when I enter the vin with Toyota dealer parts, this is what comes up

 

Hundred plus dollar gamble but I guess that’s what I will try.

 

Maybe I need to go over to the dealer and ask them wtf is supposed to be in there. Ask to see it.... fml

 

When it comes to buying Denso I would only order from Densoproducts.com or Sparkplugs.com. In 20 years I've never had an incorrect part.

 

Something similar happened to me. I needed a front o2 sensor and got an ebay one because it was cheap. Part numbers matched up but the actual part that was inside the exhaust looked different and the plug wires were much longer than the old one. The plug fit and the check engine light went away and I went back into a closed loop but the truck ran very wierd after it was installed. Like it had a loss of throttle every few seconds. I also noticed a loss of power, especially in the low end. After chasing a bunch of other stuff that wasn't the problem, I found the the sensor just wasn't sending the right signals to the ecu.
I bit the bullet and ordered and OEM one from Toyota, installed it and sent the ebay one back for a refund. It's a pain to send back, but I seriously doubt this one will work properly with your ecu. Even if it numbers do match, their are a lot of shitty ebay knockoff parts out there.

I hear ya but w/ all the confusion of late whether it is an O2 or f/a ratio because of being a mid 99, I went to Camelback Toyota, entered my vin, took the Toyota number and cross referenced through Napa to get Denso # 123-9001 . After a cup of coffee and a toke, it appears I can grind down the tabs and it will fit. I will try it tomorrow, if it don’t work I will go over to the dealer. I will never ever EVER buy anything from EBay again. I get burnt every time. Especially with heavy equipment parts. They ALWAYS send me the wrong crap.

 

That's why cheaper isn't always better. Next time support a local auto parts store or at least go to rock auto where they have descriptions, pictures, and a fast return policy.

 

If you pull that white piece out you should be able to unclip the pins and swap them over.

 

The fact that the harness isn't mating to the -9001 says you should have just ordered from the year and spec like normal and not from vin.

 

eBay has a money back guarantee but you must first contact the seller. Most eBay sellers offer paid returns. There is a reason for the plug difference as O2 and A/f sensors plugs are not interchangeable. Contact seller for return. Denso Products.com offers identical OE Replacement sensors. eBay and Amazon may be cheaper but you don't always get the parts you need.

 

If the harness is wired for the 4162 which has the twin notch on top of the plug then you don't need an AFR sensor with single notch. Not sure if there will be any ill effects if you use it but why spend $125 for a $48 sensor.

 

Normally I would agree but I thought a Toyota dealership number via the vin number of the truck would be the most accurate way of determining what is supposed to be in there. At this point I haven’t a clue. Some say it’s supposed to be an 02, some say it’s supposed to be an air/fuel. Two entirely different animals as far as the ecm goes

 

If it's wired for an O2 then that's your answer. Twin notch on top is O2.

 

Last week you said I needed the 4162. Seems like you are correct, although the Toyota numbers say otherwise.
