    So, I just replaced a bad abs sensor today but the light on the dash stays on. Can I reset it without a scan tool? Thanks for any help!

    pretty sure you need the OBDII scanner to do that.

    They cost like $20...

    If the problem is really fixed the light should go away on its own. It might take 30 miles or so of driving

    Good point. That should reset it too, as long as you leave it for several minutes.

    But just make sure you don't disconnect your battery a few days before you need to get it smogged. It clears all the emissions readiness codes, and won't pass smog (for Cali, anyway). Ask me how I know, lol...

    I did, twice. I read an article online about unhooking the battery and depressing the brake pedal to drain the main computer of all electricity. Didn't work. Just ordered an OBD2 scanner on Amazon for $20.

    I'll try that. Only drove it 15-20 miles since replacement. Ordered obd2 scanner from Amazon for $20. Be handy to have in the future as well.

    How long did you have the battery disconnected?

    I've never heard anything about pressing the brake pedal, I don't see how that does anything.

    Did you get a blue tooth one or a wired OBD scanner?

    I ordered the wired plug-in model. I only had battery unhooked a few minutes.

    You can search the site without being a member, just like this one. Since you have (or will have) the OBD scanner, you don't need to do the brake pedal thing. That is a method in which you use a wire jumper to short out 2 leads on the OBD connector, then it flashes a code. But you should be able to pull the code directly from the OBD scanner you're getting.

    But if your light is still on after several (~30) miles of driving, the new sensor didn't fix the problem. The light should go out on its own if the fault is cleared.
