5th is now low enough to be used as a towing gear.

I've only used 5th a hand full of times... skip it unless towing.

5th which is OD is about the same final drive ratio as using 5th on the 2nd gen which was a 1:1 ratio.

This six-speed manual has two overdrives, so cruising at 60 mph in 6th saves about 380 engine rpm compared to 5th, and there is a sparsity of acceleration at that pace. As someone who doesn't generally cruise pickups at 90 mph, I'd rather have more intermediate gears than two overdrives.

I know many are proponents of swapping in 4.88:1 gears putting top gear revs between 5th and 6th as stock, improve acceleration across the board, and based on experience and how much time I spent in 6th, cost little to nothing in overall fuel economy.

I’ve enjoyed reading your comments! I just have always liked cars and now trucks, (this is my first truck.). I grew up reading every car magazine out there. I don’t look at my next car or truck as just a mode of transportation. It’s so much more to me. But, I think I’m preaching to the choir.
    Long live the manual.

I believe it was only for the 3.4 equipped ones. Still would be kinda neat to have one.

I grew up driving manuals. They're fun to drive, but absolutely suck in a major metropolitan area, which is where I have found myself over the years. As I get older, I could care less for driving them on the daily. I also would rather take a dual clutch in a late model sports car any day over a traditional manual. With that said, it is nice to step into an older vehicle now and then with a traditional manual trans and take myself back to the old days, but in reality, for me, those days are long gone.

How many of you that extol the virtues of MT -is it your only vehicle?
Or your wife has a car, but its an AT? Curious.

People in your household X cars / transmission choices.

My MT Tacoma will crawl in traffic in 1st gear at a very low speed.
My '93 MT MR2 will not crawl in 1st gear at as low a speed without stalling.
My '91 Dodge Ram 12v Cummins with a 5 speed Getrag MT will crawl at a really low speed in 1st gear.

*My* only vehicles are MT and the only ones I drive. My wife has an AT and is the only one she drives. In my house, 3 cars, 2 drivers. 2 are MT, 1 is AT. Both my kids old enough to drive can drive either of my vehicles (both are moved out and on their own, but both know how). I believe (but am not 100% sure as I have never been a passenger with either of them) that one doesn't own a car and the other drives whatever his wife purchased.

Also, my wife knows how to drive my cars, she just prefers not to (much like me with her AT).

I'm not entirely sure what me liking MT has to do with my wife hating it though :D
