I got two CDI torque wrenches (3/8 and 1/2 drives) a few years ago. Solid buys imho. Covers most of my shade tree mechanic tasks..

alright guys looking for some education for anyone who can give me some....i'm starting to look at some air compressors for my garage, this is a 2 car garage that has 2 cars in it already but would really like something smaller profile like the garage mate that Ingersoll Rand has..i'm a little unsure about the size hose i need, Northern Tool sells 1/2in, 3/4in and another size i can't remember right off hand...my needs are basic auto mechanic and maybe a nail gun in the future, never going to paint with it...just something basic and worth the money....any suggestions or specific sizes to look for?

My buddy gave this to me on loan while he fulfills his #vanlife dreams for a while. Really like it, and fits perfectly in a small footprint which is what I needed and sounds like is your goal. Only thing I find mildly annoying is there is no pressure switch for the tank. You turn the motor on till you hit the pressure you want in the tank and then when it drops too low you go and switch it back on a for a bit.

@Gunshot-6A , so a pressure switch is helpful i see, i've been trying to study up on what the difference between stage 1,2 and 3 compressors also oil less ( kinda obvious) but wouldn't that effect the lifetime of the motor? i've been trying to educate myself for the last couple weeks but i get lost in all the info..

I'm not the guy for that discussion. Someone offers you a free air compressor, you take it.

I'd venture to guess that it would improve the life though, since you will naturally run it lower than if the pressure switch kicked on at some point, meaning less startups for the motor. Just a guess though.

I’m actually selling my 17 gallon to downsize. Any impacts or cutoff tools I use are either Milwaukee M18 or 120v. As my needs have changed I’m getting the same one I have in my wood shop. Look at your needs and available space. Battery operated tools have come a long ways and take up less space. If you already have air tools then disregard!

i've got a couple cordless options laying around, my only issue with cordless is, if you don't charge them you are stuck playing the waiting the game ( i use them and forget to charge them constantly) and yes i can buy more batteries and all but realistically if you do any kind of regular use with them they get worn down and the need to recycle and replace batteries is annoying to me, for me i can take care of of belt and motors and connections..my grandfather was a mechanic with his own shop downtown and out of his garage for almost 50 years, literally has the same air compressor he found sitting in the back of a warehouse that was being sold in 1980 ...there is no substitute for the sound and smell of a garage that gets used routinely...i really appreciate everyones input and help

After seeing your guys setups. Wanting to upsize my toolbox.

atm have a 6 drawer(?) Cornwell rollcart, it’ll be pretty much full after I complete my full socket set. I do have a nice setup for what I do, just at home work on my 1st gen and occasional parents truck fixing.

looking at the husky line, like the

72” 18 drawer wood top most likely

82” with cabinet and hutch combo (laptop setup pretty much)

56” 23 drawer with the top toolbox

The wood top workbench sounds nice but then again it’s meant to hold tools so seems counterproductive. Not sure if I would actually fill up the 56”, as it has around 82000 inches of tool space especially being strictly for home use.

You’ll be surprised how quick they fill up. Especially a home tool box.

I’d figure out what you need and then get the next size up.

There’s been some comparison tests between Husky and HF, HF is way better constructed, I would get a 44” HF with a 44” top, a 56”, or 72” if you really wanted to be safe for expansion in the future.
