So I nailed a fiberglass ladder on the highway today. Tundra in the middle lane clipped it just enough to send it sliding into my lane. Slowed down as much as I could to probably 35-40 but hit it perpendicular on the right side. Not sure if I actually ran completely over it or if it spun it under the truck. Made a bunch of noise and heard it rattle under the truck. Only thing I found was some fiberglass on one of the exhaust pipe joints and some dirt rubbed off the muffler. Tires are good and wasn't tracking any differently after I hit it. Anything else I should look for?

Look for any impact marks under the truck. The biggest things you should be checking are the brake lines, fuel lines, and fuel tank. While unlikely, these could of gotten damaged.

But chances are the ladder got kicked out to the side and just bounced a little bit. Fiberglass ladders are pretty slick, so they slide easy.

Thanks. I looked at it best I could when I got to work but I'll slide under it when I get home to do a better inspection.

I hate fucking reckless people who can't secure shit on their vehicles, that kind of stuff literally kills people.

As mentioned look for the obvious stuff (no leaks or visible damage). Most likely it sounded a lot worse than what it was.

Waiting for all the assholes to start posting saying how you're a shitty driver and they have 2 million accident free miles and it was completely avoidable and all your fault

Take pictures in case you need for insurance.

I hit a deer once late at night and didn't report it until the next morning. Only way I was able to prove it was a deer was the hair still attached to the bumper.

Yeh, see so many ladders on the shoulder of the interstates here. It was either the ladder or the concrete barrier on the side. I chose the ladder. To anyone who has drove down I-20 in Louisiana, they know it is like an accident every time you drive it. There are bumps on the road bigger than the ladder.

    You and me both!
Just yesterday, I was stopped at a light on a divided highway, and some shitnuts was on the shoulder loading the contraption, that just fell out, and he put this top heavy contraption back in the same way, forces his way in to traffic and the MF thing flipped over and damn near flew out the tailgate again! He just drove off, I'm sure it fell out again.

whew... at least it didn't clip it at an angle that could have sent it semi-airborne.

Thanks everyone for the input. I got under it and checked it out. Everything looks good. Looks like it went under the front passenger wheel, off the exhaust pipe, muffler, and spare tire. Feel a bit lucky; could have been much worse.

Wouldn't hurt to get alignment checked.
