I know a lot of people are curious to do the retro, as am I. What I am looking for is some output shots or videos comparing the light output to say, even standard pnp HIDs... Anyone have what I am looking for?

Are you trying to see if the projecor output is justified for the greater price? l wil try to find some shots but remember that a PnP H1, H3, etc Xenon bulb is less powerful bulb right off the bat. A D2S bulb used in a projector has 50% greater lumen output before you even get to what is lost by putting a Xenon bulb in a Halogen reflector housing.

these 4 projectors are all mod free. no cutting of the reflector bowl is needed. im running the mini d2s, although i may upgrade to the mini h1's in the future. still undecided on that one, i like the idea of running oem style bulbs. the quality of the oem bulb WILL always be better than the rebased types

And just so the post above mine is clear... OEM = D2S, the H1 Xenon bulbs are not street legal in an application.

umm, right. the bulb type doesn't make a kit legit by the way. putting a d2r in a reflector housing doesn't make it legal either

yes, and it will look exactly the same...just with light above the cutoff! those FX-Rs simply have a sheild that lowers to allow light above the cutoff for the highs.

Holy hell! Okay Yosh, now a question... What is the difference between like the FX-R and the D2S or the H1 minis as far as light output goes? I like the seemingly easy installation of the minis... Wondering if I am sacrificing anything?

the fx-r's have a wider beam with a slightly sharper cutoff. cutting is required for installation. mini h1 are completely drop in's

The TL is even wider than the FX-R. The H1 has 1/3 less lumens to work with than the D2S bulb used in the TL and FX OEM units.

where did you here that about the h1? the mini h1 uses a 4300k bulb with the exact same lumen output as an oem 4300k. was talking to matt @ theretrofitsource.com and he stated the same thing. the only thing the tl has over the fx-r is intensity

So then... Is the added benefit worth it to getting FX-R or TL over the mini H1? I am about 2 weeks out from a retro of some kind, and I just want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row.

bulb choice first of all. h1 is a based oem bulb. the fx-r and tl are just huge in comparrison. what it comes down too, if you don't feel like you can pull off cutting and aiming, then go with the mini h1.

Just got off the phone with Matt at TRS... Think I am actually gonna go with the D2S. He figured that would be my best option when we ran through everything.
