We are taking my niece and nephew car camping next weekend up there. Usually find a spot along the Wiseman Rd (old 105) but I'm sure most of those will be grabbed early. Probably have to go a bit deeper. I've never been past the Wisemans View turnoff. Are there many good car camping spots down there?

A quick overnighter in the Sierra Anchas. A little four-wheelin', a tasty beverage at sunset, and a little telescoping.

Hey! I have that tent too, or at least one from them (Anza 1400). Really like being able to open it up so much and it is a good price.

We keep the rain cover on all the time, stops pitch from trees in addition to keeping it dry. It looks like where you are at you don't have to worry about rain or pitch.

Also try FR982, it's off 181 and great places by the creek.

I go from desert to mountains and in between all the time, so the rain fly is good whenever. Down low it's great as a sunshade. I like this tent too, and mine is just the "Extreme" edition of the Anza 1400. Diamond plate aluminum for the floor, thicker tent material, and the telescoping ladder. So far it's been great.

The only thing I wish was different would be to have some kind of cover to on the bottom of the tent so that when folded you don't get dust in under the mattress. I have thought about making something and putting on with velcro to see if that works. Hasn't been a huge problem but kind of a pain that I wish I wish was better.

Nope, I looked at those and they are still on the list to consider, the ones I saw were similar but didn't have the poles in them to hold the taunt, just loops that connected to the rack and then poles and guy lines. I really need to look for them again, I should have save the link.

Kelty use to make a Car Tarp similar to that.
    https://www.gearbuyer.com/products/kelty_sunshade_medium.html

This is a cached page I think since you can't find them for sale anymore. It looks similar to the Euro thing you posted. I have the Kelty car tarp stored away somewhere. I used it once at the beach. If you are interested I can try to find it Monday when I am off.

Ordered one of these and got it yesterday. Once the rain quits here will see what it is like sometime this weekend. Plan to use it as a stand alone awning elsewhere and use it as a model to modify and make one for my truck. No window, a little wider, and different attachment to the roof rack. Maybe a few other things as well so it is closer to what I want.

Thanks - I am interested, if you are able send some pictures of the condition and how it connects to the vehicle.

Hmm, I haven't any problems with dust getting into the tent, and I travel on a LOT of dusty roads.

It wasn't bad, just noticed some dust/dirt under the mattress right where the fold is, we had some pretty bad wind storms so maybe something worked through the cover or something. Easy enough to clean up, maybe I won't see it again.

Running a small heating blanket off the spare battery tonight. Hopefully it will make it all night. I'll have the solar on the shell soon to keep everything charged. 20191012_204459.jpg
