Hey guys, Does anyone have experience with long travel and a drop bracket lift?

I just bought this truck and it has both.
All my trucks in the past have had drop bracket lifts, the last one I had I put through the ringer and it held up pretty nicely, definitely a few things that needed beefing up but still held. Im new to the long travel world and I’m trying to catch up on all the info this form has but at 4000 pages it’s going to take some time.

The truck has dual spring rate coil overs , and triple bypasses , dirt logic long travel and pro comp 6 in lift, with 37’s for wheels.

Once again I bought the truck with all this so asking why is probably going to be fallowed with me explaining how small my “package” is and that I’m trying to make up for it with this truck.....

Any tips or tricks you got for me please send it.

All depends on how you like to use your truck - if you're happy with it as is, good, keep it that way until you're not happy with it. Eventually making the kit perform as it was intended to be able to perform, you'd have to remove the lift and build up the rear, but if you're not feeling like it's making the truck perform inadequately, it's all good then.

    Thanks man.

So far so good. I’ve taken it out once so far and it’s a night and day difference from the last truck I had. Last one had drop bracket lift , hydro bump stops , mid travel , Fox 2.5 with DSC valves, flutter stack and 700lbs springs . I’ve never ridden in a long travel truck so I don’t have that to compare it to. Also after cutting the frame for a drop bracket your damn near committed to it. I’ve heard of one other dude going back and it looked like a pain in the ass.

Another one. That said, trucks are a pain in the ass.

As someone running the dirt king long travel kit, I am fairly certain that what you have is just their mid travel kit.

Comparing your picture to what can be seen in mine, the change in angle of your lower control arm at the shock mounting point and mine is much different. And the amount of axle shaft showing between cv boots on yours is noticeably less than what is shown in mine. A few measurements could confirm this, but I’m 99% positive you are running their standard length mid travel kit paired with that drop bracket kit. That said, if the truck is working and performing to your liking, then run it and enjoy.

    Whole lotta stuff
I think it might be the CVJ axle boots helping to give the illusion that it's just mid. Just by the visual.

Is there a tierod extension? I recall seeing this build somewhere.

Depending on how much you trust the previous owner it may be worthwhile to pull the shocks and cycle the suspension to make sure it's clearanced correctly and the limit straps/bumps are placed correctly.

Good points on the tie rod extension and different cv boot. Looks like there is some sort of tie rod extension or adapter in there.

Either way, if you want to measure to be sure @Bfox I just measured mine from the lower control arm cam bolt to uniball and had about 18”

There are a few guys running this combo of LT and drop bracket lifts. The ones I've talked to are happy with it. As previously stated, if you're happy with it then great! I'd be skeptical of ext/collapsed lengths of the shocks though. Probably a good idea to cycle the suspension and make sure it's done correctly like @Arcticelf said.
Dirt King's MT kit doesn't offer a secondary shock hoop.

When I get a chance I’ll measure it. But truck is in east coast right now and I’m on the west coast.

Not a bad idea . In a few weeks I’ll have access to a truck lift and will be removing parts/ shocks and exploring the front end. But ya as of now I’m really happy with it. Like I said all my trucks in the past have had drop bracket lifts so I’m definitely comfortable with it.

If you can please send links to other builds that have this combo.

More power to you homie. Welding is a skill I really need to learn.

What was the difference you noticed going back?

    Question for you guys-

So my last 2 alignments have made my steering wheel pretty much pointing at 9 o' clock at this point. Just got one today and was told I either need to get shorter tie rod extensions or I can try to unbolt the steering shaft and rotate it. They tried to do the second and the knuckle right off the steering rack wouldn't come off. Don't know who would have last touched it, but they got it about 1/4" off the splines and it wouldn't move even with a pry bar. (They also only removed the 1 bolt on the knuckle, not the 2 bolts higher up). Truck drives true so the alignment is fine, but the steering wheel is not.
Last time I was there I had a stripped cam bolt I have since replaced. Tie rods are adjusted as far in as they can go.

    Curious what everyone thinks.

Pull the steering shaft apart and adjust it. It's a shitty afternoon, because there is little room to work, but that's the correct solution.

The lower joint on the rack is where you need to make the adjustment, the top joint to the steering wheel is keyed and only fits in one position.

Pull all three bolts, apply a generous amount of PB blaster. Then go have a beer or two.

Apply more PB Blaster, a pry-bar, and BFH until it comes out. Then adjust and reinstall.

Then have a couple more beers and curse the Toyota engineering department.

Remember to strap down the steering wheel so it doesn't free-wheel and get in the wrong position (you'll fuck up the springs and wires in the column).

Awesome. That's pretty much what the guys at the shop told me to do too haha Thanks. Wasn't sure if there was a better way or something.
