Random question and long story short but I'm about to sell my truck and was wondering if I should revert it to stock or keep the mods on it...
I know most after market mods wont help increase the price but my main concern is the cab mount chop and welding work affecting the price dramatically.
But besides that it has also been debadged, lifted, added tires/rims, step bar, tonneau cover, and tinted windows.

Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
I mean, if you trade it in they will let you know up front why its the value.

    on private sales:
When it comes to mods you wont loose money because of them, but you wont gain money unless it is to the right person. If anything it could help you sell it faster. Keep in mind you wont make your money back usually

If the CMC and weld doesnt look like ass it shouldnt be a problem

I owned a used car dealership and would prefer a custom car or truck over stock, if it was done right and looked good. At the dealer only auctions, anytime a nice custom vehicle came through the lane it sold quickly and for more than a stock vehicle. Don't let a dealer tell you all those mods don't mean anything in regard to trade in value, it does.

Right, I definitely don't plan on trading it in assuming they won't give me as much for what I could personally sell it for and I'm sure I'm not going to make money back from what I paid for it and the mods.

Subbed, im a bit concerned about doing irreversible mods like chopping the bumper and replacing it with the arb or something similar because of the loss in trade in value

That's good to hear. I plan to sell it myself though and was just curious because I've never had to sell a modified vehicle.

Selling it yourself is best, our trucks hold their value extremely well and are easy to sell.

I think I'll try to sell it as is. Was only concerned about a few modifications but just gonna cross my fingers when the time comes to sell it.

Change back too stock, you will get nothing more for your extra's,and older buyers cringe when they see extra's,because they automatically think it was a driven hard by a teenager.

Yeah I kinda feel like that might happen in some cases but I think having it lifted on wheels will give it more attention to potential buyers and they'll see how well and taken care of it actually is that it wouldn't matter.
I'm pretty OCD and took really good care of the exterior and interior also kept up on maintenance, but yeah my seats are pretty much brand new thanks to seat covers and everything is in excellent condition so not too worried.
But I might consider it if the price is dramatically cut due to the aftermarket parts.

A dealer is going to lowball the shit out of you on your truck even if it was mint condition and stock. Any added crap just gives them incentive to lower that price even more. Or at least that was my experience. If you are set on doing a trade-in, look into carvana. They offered me a little over 2k above dealer offers.

that being said, tires and rims and at least a mild lift shouldn’t hurt. Tint shouldn’t hurt. Irreversible stuff and purposeful “damage” will get money taken off. If your mod items don’t add up to that much or if they will be too much of a pain in the ass to remove and swap out then leave it.

Private sale is the only way to net the best price while leaving everything on the truck but it’s going to take a while and private buyers don’t seem to care that much about anything other than a stock truck.

    Same crap everyone else got
If you have the stock stuff to put back on like suspension, tires, wheels etc, then do that and sell your parts. You will get more money that way. The average buyer isn't going to even see your cmc. If you don't have those parts and would have to buy them to return to stock then it's not worth it at all. Sell it as is at that point.

I'll keep that in mind and definitely going to avoid trading in to the dealerships.

Yeah I don't have the stock wheels and leaf springs and would also have to pay to get it back on so probably not worth it.

If the work is well done getting what you want in private sale shouldn’t be a problem but if it’s a hacked up piece of shit then good luck getting top dollar.

They dont mean shit to the average person, subsequently they dont mean shit when it comes to increased value.
