Transfer case output seal leak, and center carrier bearing issues

Hey all, I had taken a look under my truck lest week, and found that my transfer case was wet with oil, not enough to leave behind a puddle. Also during this discovery i found that the carrier bearing was hanging low in the bushing, purchased and installed a new seal and bearing assembly, during the install found that the universal joint's seal had cracked so i installed a new one. I now have looked underneath and noticed that the carrier bearing is sitting low, and can see a drop developing on the sheath outside of the output seal. So im curious if anyone has had the same issue, and maybe there is a underlying cause that i have not addressed. Thanks

 

Did you see a groove at all in the flange when you took it off the t-case? There may be a small groove in it. Also the seal could be sitting not quite in the right position.

 

I had looked for any abrasion or scratch on the surface, but hadn't seen any, ran some scotch brite around the seat to buff the seal surface. I had seen some people install some rtv on the spline after i discovered the leak, post new seal, thought maybe that some oil was finding its way through the spline.

 

That could be a possibility as well.

 

Where did you get the seal? When I did mine it was toyota only part.

 

Yea, I i got it from the dealer. Nice and inexpensive 12 bucks. Im pulling it back apart tomorrow, take a look at it to make sure i didn't overlook something, im curious if i should put some rtv around the spline upon reassembly.

 

rtv not needed check the edge of the seal, if you didn't grease it when you put it together you might have burned the seal
