This affected the company that runs the pipeline that supplies petroleum to Reno, via the pipeline over the Sierra. Guess they were shut down by PG&E since they are in a area serviced by PG&E. This effects most of western Nevada and I'm sure parts of eastern Kalifornia.

Wow I feel for y’all. Would be awesome to see CA customers collectively refusing to pay their bills

Lots of interesting lessons here on how dependent we are on easy electricity.

How long have some been out?

That's interesting to know how deep rooted PG&E's service is to to the nearby states and how dependent they are on them. I'm disappointed that the customers in those areas will be without service. I think that it's time for Californians to have lessons on how to learn how to live off the grid with no electricity or gas service as to better prepare themselves for these type of events. Those of us who have been practicing living off the grid/outdoors would know how to already. The rest of the general population in this state should learn how to live off grid, in case of fire or a natural disaster like an earthquake.

I think that the leaders of these small towns/cities in the outlying areas should look into developing their off grid solutions like solar/wind power/etc.that would be free of interference of service & free of charge from PG&E. Homes/offices/industrial with solar panels/battery banks that are self sustaining should be utilized, not connected to the electrical grid like PG&E would show the power companies that we're not in need of their services any more, and should be the wave of the future for city leaders/ business owners/homeowners.

I've had it for almost a year now. It's great on camping trips around the camp fire. 100 ft extension cord, put it on the other side of the boulder or hang it off the cliff. it'll run everyone's electric blankets so their backs don't get cold.

Starts up as easy as the Hondas and Yamahas w/ 1 or 2 pulls.

The best part is you can pair it up asymmetrically. Meaning you can pair this with another 800 watt, or any of the others like the 1,800 or 3,000 watt inverter generators.

I wonder what it would be like to disconnect from PG&E's service and have your own solar/inverter/battery bank array & propane gas for your own home without backlash from the state or city, be lawfully & legally up to code & compliance, and be free of utilities other than water? I met a family in the Santa Cruz mountains whose home was off the grid and done in compliance with city/county/state codes & laws. It was a beautiful & simple home in the middle of the forest.

Well, long term (like 20-50 year timeline). I believe the plan was to have PG&E turn into a backup utility.

The idea with requiring Solar on all new homes and continuing to provide subsidies for solar installs so that 100% of all daytime power would be done by solar. All neighborhoods would be set apart into pods for either cogeneration facilities or battery storage. In addition with low power LED retrofitting on all lighting sources, that goal would be feasible.

At that point, the "power", so to speak, will be back with the consumers.

lol, I just mean if you're somewhere, like the grand canyon, you can place the generator someplace where it would naturally act as a soundwall.

I have a generator that runs the entire house, propane and well water. Food storage, chickens, rabbits, dogs, guns and ammo. If we had too, we could eat the dogs. Property is far enough back from the street, the dogs will eat them before they ever made to my front porch. It's all going to implode one day, then there will be those that want what you have. Prepare now, for a reckoning is coming and it's going to be biblical. Good luck everyone and be safe.

I like your preparedness/prepper mentality, that you thought ahead of how to be self sustaining/self reliant for your own resources, and protecting your home & resources, but please don't eat your dogs.

The family needs to talk to families from Paradise who lost their homes, family members due to power left on. Still too bad, maybe should have been better prepared, wife alerted, flashlight handy to access the oxygen tank. Don't know the details.

    back to bone stock.
Glad that’s over. I was in the dark for a bit. Good friend loaned me a Honda generator which kept my fridge cold. No big deal really.

Give me a taste of what it really could be like.

Bottom line, I’m gonna get better prepared. Not like we will stop wind next season. Solar panels with a battery in the plans. Fir sure a generator.

I’m going to Texas for the holidays. I was told anon CA generator runs better? And cost less. Any truth?

For the most part, there's really no difference between a CARB Compliant generator and a non CARB Compliant one besides one being approved and legal for use California vs one that's not. Specifically speaking there's legislation that says that for X size motor, Y amount of emissions is allowed. Where Y meaning Hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, etc. This can be adjusted by Air/Fuel ratio, cylinder compression, piston design. But from a manufacturing stand point, it doesn't make any sense to make a billion different models. It just makes sense to make one design and just slap the carb-certified sticker on it when they need to for California sales.

For California they can charge manufacturers to certify to their standards them and run testing on a handful of units before going on full manufacturing. The cost of the certificate, if I'm not mistaken, is a set cost per unit. The costs get passed off to the consumer.

It's similar to drop testing on pistols.
