Hard time using spanner wrench

Do you need to take off tires inorder to lift front coil shocks with a spanner wrench?

 

did you take out the set screw???? i also sprayed WD40 on the collar and threads so it would loosen it up and make it easier. try that

 

Set screws? yea my brother put on the suspension so I dont if he did can you tell me where I would find those! thanks

 

take them off the truck its much simpler that way.... trust me I just got done doing mine about 30 min ago could barely get them to move on the truck even with all the weight off of them.

 

Wheels on or off didn't really matter for me.

You need an allen wrench to take out the set screw, though! It should be somewhere on the collar.

Once that is out, I just jacked the truck up and put it on stands, left the wheel on, and went to turning it. In some spots it stuck a little, I just ended up tapping the spanner with a hammer to get it moving, and then turning it once I got it started.

WD-40 helps, x2 on that

Oh and i would NOT take them off the truck, my 2 cents. Taking the whole coilover out is a bitch and a half imo, I wouldn't want to have to do it.

Also, one thing I noticed - if you do not jack the truck up, but just do it on the ground, it worked OK. However, my settings didn't "set in" until I rolled the truck backwards and forwards a couple of feet.

On one side I'd hit the UCA trying to adjust it though, and I needed to jack it up so the suspension drooped to get the UCA out of the way.

 

you guys must have different coilovers then mine. The ones that come with the ultimate kit wouldn't adjust on the ground even with a cheater pipe on the wrench I was affraid it was going to break the wrench. taking them off isnt that bad but if you have never done it I wouldn't try either.. good luck

 

Hm, who knows. I have leepers, they adjusted just fine on the truck, and actually that was the way chris4x4 recommended I do it.

Actually, I think they would have been hard to adjust before installing, because there was nothing to hold the coilover still while trying to turn the collar.

If OP still has a tough time he can always take them off.

 

Yea I have Donahoe Racing Coil Covers, Im trying to get it higher cuz when me and my bro put them on we got it to 2 in lift
