screwed by guy on TC.com, sold me some shot shocks.

hey guys just wanting some advice, i bought some used leeper shocks from another member on here. he said he bought them off another member off of here for 300 bucks, he said he was told they were in good condition but needed to be rebuilt. i messaged the guy that sold them to him, and he said the guy that sold them to me, told him leeper mfg checked out the shocks and that they just needed to be recharged.

so i bought them from him for 120, he told me he had never had them checked out, but that leeper mfg would rebuild them for free due to leeper mfg saying they would rebuild for free(i guess leeper mfg owed him a favor).

its been about 2 months but i finally had made some time 2 weeks ago to go to leeper mfg, spoke with dave leeper he said he knew the kid that sold them to me but didnt say would rebuild for free and said he didnt rebuild anymore shocks for a long time now.

i had been texting/messaging the guy that sold them to me for the last 2 months or so and he wouldnt reply, so i didnt think nothing of it.
i took the shocks last week to trent hauber who did most of the rebuilds @ icon/donahoe and many other places. he emails me this week and says the shocks are shot.
so i send a message to the guy that sold them to me and tell him to text me, he finally replies back after i tell him i will put him on blast since he sells stuff on here. i told him the problem and he says he paid 300 and that he lost more on them than i did at 120. i told him atleast give me half back and he said no. this guy seems like a good person the one i bought them from but he said i bought them as is.

trent says they're no good and i will end up spending more to find these parts that what the shocks are worth. should i continue to try and get atleast half my money back from the guy that sold them to me or just let it be and move on? i just feel like he knew something was bad with the shocks since he wouldnt reply to my text or pm's for the last two months.

im sure had he tried to get them rebuilt then was told they were shot, im sure he would have contacted guy that sold them to him and tried to get some money back, but he tells me he lost more than what i paid and says he has gotten screwed before buying used stuff and that he truly didnt know they were shot and he cant return any of my cash back.

lol... dont want to put him on blast yet cuz he seems like a good person and i dont want to mess with his other sales on here.
im not even asking for a full refund just half.

I guess it would depend on what the original ad said, how was it worded. The money thing is between the both of you, I guess like most things they are sold "as is". I guess I would appreciate a heads up if I were going to buy something from them in the future.

 

Thats BS, if he doesn't do something for you to make it right you should post his name won't help you but at least it might save another member from the same thing. It does sound like he knew something was up with the shocks to me.

 

for 120 bux, it's pretty much a wash... when buying used, it's important to know what to look for when you pick the item up, especially when it's being blown out for such a low price...

any part you buy used via forums is pretty much as-is unless the seller advertises some kind of guarantee...

as for the condition of the shocks, it sounds like neither of the first 2 owners knew how bad the shocks were, so it would be hard to say that they knowingly ripped you off...

does the last seller owe you any money? likely not, as he stated they needed a rebuild...

that being said,unless the shafts are chipped up, the seals shouldn't be that expensive to rebuild...

are the shocks leaking?

 

i found a post from him that he was having the pistons slam on them... so im guessing he did know....
i sent him a message that he can give me 60 bucks and no hard feelings since he's a good kid... i just want it to be fair.

 

I think its rude of you not to give us the persons name. You are letting others possibly buy from him and risking buying shitty things. Let us make the decision if we want to buy from him.

 

the guy that was going to rebuild them said its possible to get some parts for them from icon but its a long shot and ill end up spending more than what the shocks are worth. the guy that was going to rebuild them said theyre pretty much garbage and sent me the two pics i posted. the shocks were not leaking(not sure). he told me leeper mfg would rebuild for free and leeper mfg told me they didnt do rebuilds for along time now, i even mentioned the guys name to dave leeper himself and he did a low ha and said i never said i would rebuild for free. idk man i just feel like he knew something was wrong with them as he has another post up that the pistons were slamming...

 

It's bargaining power! This guy for sure does not want to be put on blast.

It sure as hell sounds like he knew they were junk and made some money off them. Thats fucked up. You need to let us know who it is. He can have his chance of defending himself in this thread as well.

Hard not to think he knew IMO, if he gave that story presale then didn't respond for two months.
