do you have a side profile of where your tag is mounted. looks great from behind, but maybe not from the side?

But no, I don't have a side profile. That didn't really change all that much.

 

does it look goofy at all to you from the side? your opinion is the only one that matters lol. It was just a thought I had. I personally would probably rig it up mounted to the tire.

 

Doesn't look any more goofy than it did I guess. Having the tag mounted there allows me to be completely legal with the tag light and not have to worry about pulling that off plus the tag if I ever need my spare. That plate also serves as a solid mounting surface for my hi-lift. With this version of my swingout, every bit of space is utilized unlike how I had it originally.

Agreed. I can already tell by moving that hi-lift down, the swingout feels a lot more balanced since more weight is located more directly on the bumper.

Little flexing in the neighboring construction site. Couldn’t find a dirt pile that I could get completely flexed out in. Still have some room to drop out.

Trying out another way to haul the bike. Built some outriggers for the fork mount. Holds the bike well I’m just concerned about the weight being on the outside of the bed rails and shifting while driving. We’ll see over time. For now it’ll do the job though and didn’t cost me anything but time to make.

 

Where is your tire?

 

Reworking the swingout. Didn’t feel like loading it back up. The heim joints didn’t work out so well. Lol. Waiting on an actual hinge kit.

 

gotcha. What one are you getting?

 

Getting one from Comp4x4. Uses bronze oilite bearings instead of roller bearings so less maintenance. It’s in double shear and uses a 1 inch bolt. It’s 4 inches long so I give me some room to weld in some more bracing to minimize the twist I’ve been getting. If I had to redo it, I’d use 3x2 square tube as the base but I’m not about to spend more money on it.

 

Is is twisting front to back? I was going yo do a 2x2 base with a gusset at the spindle so I didn’t have to taper the 3x2 down to 2x2 to fit the latch

 

It’s twisting from the weight of the tire. It won’t be near as bad once I get a real hinge in there though.

 

Doubt the weight of a bicycle is even close to doing something to the rails or moving.
