HA! I'm dealing right now with one of my sons that doesn't pay attention to his tires. They have about 30-40K miles on some tires that should have gotten 60K, but since they haven't paid attention, the tread is almost gone on the front (front wheel drive)!

And they just drove from Texas, about 1,200 miles on them, and were planning on driving home on them too!

We were driving around a few days ago (down a mountain) and every time he applied the brakes it rattled the steering wheel like crazy! So yesterday we jacked it up, and that's when I looked at the front tires! :smack:

I was expecting no brake pads, but was surprised to see they weren't that bad. Thank goodness, when Honda did some work under warranty, they also replaced the brake pads (but of course, didn't turn the rotors), so we turned the rotors.

He's going to replace the 4 tires this week, before they drive back to Texas! (As a Dad/Grandfather - they have three kids, I through in a $100 bribe to get him to replace all four tires):hattip:

When I upsized to 255/85r16s, I got a matching wheel and initially the tire rubbed the exhaust shield. I moved the spare mount back (towards the tailgate) by one "bolt pattern distance" and it fits great now. Only touches the leaf sprint mount.

I'm going with the no rotation option - getting a cheap, steel wheel and a used K02 tire for my spare - won't rotate the 5th, just for emergencies. Hoping I can modify the carrier, go with a side dump cat back forward of the rear wheel so I can stuff the over sized spare in the stock location.

Best option, ill find some pics I took, it will fit and clear the exhaust but not well with the brackets contact point unless they are bent.

Edit: pictures from before the bend

Yeah. Bed, tailgate, receiver carriers aren't good options for me. I'm not rock sliding so hanging the over sized spare underneath shouldn't pose a problem.

I went with the cheapest new 265/70/17 I could find at Discount Tire on a 17” wheel I got from a TW member. Cheapest route to a full size spare that I can rely upon to perform. Fits fine under the bed.

I got 265/75/16 Duratracs, but only bought 4. Rarely do you ever use your spare.

Any heat problems from the tire being so close to the exhaust? I'm going to put the same size under there. Did you hammer the brackets back or something?

For the spare tire, he's talking about the "guides" that are towards the front of the spare mount. Some folks bend them "flatter" (more parallel to the bed) to fit a larger spare.

I couldn't see how to do so, given my tools and skill set, so I relocated the spare tire mount rearward by about one mounting bracket width.

So right after I wrote that I got under the truck, and I didn’t have to move or bend or relocate anything. I got a 285/70/17 under there now. It was a tight fit and it’s got slight wiggle room, but it’s touching the frame at the top (underside of bed) so that’s all ima get out of it. Works tho!

DCSB 4x4 here. Just wanted to add a data point. Beat the alignment tabs mostly flat with a sledge and 255/85/16 tucks up under the truck nicely.
