I understand your post was to someone else. And you are missing the point. You should not need to coat inside, outside, upside or downside, Toyota should buy and use a frame that can hold up.

And they do hold up quite well---in states that dont salt/brine roads. My point is TOYOTA is the only manufacturer who bought back at 1,5 times fair market value. Offers 15 or 12 year extended frame rust warranties after a free rust preventive treatment and has ever replaced entire frames FREE in the history of automotive manufacturing world wide.

^^^^The truth. A fleet of Ford vehicles at my work, that see gravel roads and are stored outside, driven on salted roads, and never get undercarriage love.......they are all fine.

Toyota......you need to fluid film or it rusts. Toyota is simply applying a shit paint job to their frames, on purpose, for a reason known only to them.

The science of painting/coating metal to resist corrosion is not new, and is well understood and established. Toyota has access to the literature, and the science, and is making a decision to use a sub standard product or application method that results in endless rusty frames. I could believe it was a mistake on a model year or two, but after a decade.......let’s get real people......Toyota is fucking you on purpose.

Only because they had to. Cheaper than their day in court if the truck collapsed on the highways, at speed, and killed everyone.

I'll take a picture of the underside of our F-350 at work in Monday. In my area ANY vehicle that hasn't had meticulous care of it's frame/unibody and is driven in winter for 5-6 years looks like hell. Just a fact of life.

Is Toyota worse than any other? Maybe, I don't really know. But show me another manufacturer that will replace a frame after 10 years, and not just for the original owner. My good friend bought an '08-ish a few months ago and it's at the dealer right now getting it swapped, free of charge.

The difference is the rusty ford frame doesn’t collapse. That’s a major difference.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Tacoma fanboy, but Toyota’s intentional cheaping-out on the frame coating is indefensible. I don’t want a free frame. I don’t give a shit if they offer a free frame. I just want the frame that my truck came bolted to from the factory, to not be a piece of shit. Simple request really.

Still not getting it. Touch a burning hot stove and scorch your hand. Do it a second time. I am pretty sure you won't do it a 3rd. Toyota is not 3 years between generations, more like 10 or more. We are now going into the 5th year of the 3rd generation Tacoma with the same exact frame issues we had with the first. Something is rotten in Denmark.

TOYOTA makes enough money from the NO SALT states to take really good care of the rest of us who freeze in the winter.

To bad they don’t invest that extra cash in a better frame coating to begin with, to everyone’s benefit.

I mean, maybe they don't collapse in the unique Toyota way (though I have seen plenty of "broken back" f-150s), but they still fail.

Plenty of non-toyotas get junked every year because they are no longer safe to drive.

I agree, but in my experience, in general, Toyota pickups develop serious rust, far earlier than other makes. It seems to be their pickups in particular. There is no comparison between what Ford does, and what Toyota does, when it comes to the durability of their undercarriage and frame coating. I do believe Toyota could do a lot better if they wanted to.

I had a 02 Ford sport trac that I traded in for the taco. It had bad rust… body mount brackets (part of the frame) were literally rusting out.

    02-08 spent in MN
Bought in 08-18 spent in fl

Heres the comparison, Ford uses 6 ga. C channel frames. Toyota uses 11 ga. Box frames and advises owners to rinse off road salt in owners manual. BUILT FORD TOUGH vs. OH WHAT A FEELING.

Anyways.....I don’t want to labour the point anymore than I already have, but all of the coated items under the Fords seem to be rust free longer. It’s not just a steel gauge issue. The shock mounts, exhaust hangers, leaf springs, diff and axles, stay rust free longer on the Fords, when they Toyota roll off the lot with rust already starting on the welds.

    Ditto!
I’m going to take a picture of my
2015 F-250 work truck. I drive it daily and put 340,000 miles on it. To my surprise it still runs. It has rust around the windows where rocks chipped the paint. My boss asked me why is there rust on the door. I said chipped paint and Midwest winters equals rust.i drive in blizzard conditions from northern Michigan, Wisconsin, illinois, Iowa and East to Pennsylvania. Winter here is brutal. No not the weather but the amount of salt on the roads. During summer months I wash my personal truck twice per week. In the winter twice a week and the day after each snowstorm and then above freezing.
    Pics on Monday to follow

But is it on the verge of collapse?
