I think we should define some things:

Trail Damage: (noun) what randy does when he goes wheeling anywhere.

Broken: (verb) another one of nick's things that are no longer in working order.

Not too shabby. Probably less than 102 though. My speedo read 10% higher when I went from 4.10 to 4.88, which would be 92 at 102 on the speedo. You should be off by more than that going from 3.73 to 4.88. @EatSleepTacos said his was reading 20% fast when he regeared, so that would be 82 actual at 102 on the speedo.

So whats weird is google maps gps reads 5-8mph faster than my speedo, which is opposite of the way i think it should work.

My buddy who borrowed the truck said the same thing using a speedo app

Edit: i've thought about this way more than any normal person should- so theres a wheel speed sensor at all 4 wheels. Does it even know its been regeared? I think the only thing that affects it is larger tires

Yeah. That is odd. With a taller gear and taller tires, your speedo should be reading faster than your actual speed.

But it determines wheel speed off of axle rpm's, correct? So it would never know if its been regeared. All it would know is the axles spin at X rpm and with stock tires that equals X mph. Sooo the only thing that would affect the reading is tire size. Per rotation, a 35 covers more ground than a 31 causing it to underestimate mph.

You snuck your edit in there while I was replying.

The speedo on manual, non-VSC trucks doesn't use the wheels speed sensors at all. It only uses the transmission/transfer case speed sensor. I haven't looked at the wiring of manaul, VSC trucks, so they might act like automatic trucks that use the ABS module and wheel speed sensors.

I'll have to look into it more, but looking at a speedo app and gps, it looks like it only sees the larger tires - today the speedo said 71 the whole way home and gps said 76.

Makes sense to me. It would depend where it is measured, I think. If you measure at the driveshaft, the regear would affect, but if measured at the wheels, not.

Either way, the moral of the story is it may outrun a 1984 corolla, but we're not breaking any land speed records.
