Anyone else having this issue? all the hitch locks ive bought (3) are just a hair shy from locking. 1/16" too short

Is our trailer hitch a little wider than standard hitches?

Ive bought the standard bent hitch pin but would like to find one with a lock.

I see this at work on our GMC trucks. Look for a locking pin for a 2 1/2" receiver.

I had the same issue. Brought another one and it fit. Not sure why.

I use the same one. It’s tight but it fits.

I got one from Lowe’s... it was a Kobalt brand, with the bend. Will get pictures in the day.

That might be the key, all the ones that i have tried and failed to fit had the flat tube end on the other side. I wonder if the bend allows it to push in a little more.

The 3rd gen receiver is definitely a bit beefier than the 2nd gen receiver. Of course, you don't find this out until you need to load the trailer for an early departure the next morning. Had to run to Lowe's quick to get a longer locking pin that I had used for years on the 2nd gen.

I don't own one, but looked into it. If you buy the "hitch vault", you have to buy a locking pin specifically for the Tacoma. So there must be some subtle difference.

I bought a cheap one from harbor freight and the night before heading down to the Outer Banks realized it was too short by a fraction. Too late to go to Home Depot. Ended up breaking off a plastic piece of the lock (that was not functional for the lock) and it actually worked. First and last time buying anything from there.

Its not HF fault. Our hitches are just a fraction bigger than normal

I had one of those Reese locks, worked for about a year before the lock stopped working...
