All the UZ motors are good shit, just need to replace the paper mache rods in yours and it could be a fast UZ too

maybe one day. i'll do headers next year with injectors. that should satisfy my current desires. but i do see myself tearing into the engine one day.

but now i have a complete 2gr i can build once the tacos running... be a great candidate for a MR2 swap or to make my Avalon fast.. because.. fuck it why not race car all the cars!

Which MR2? The SW20 models are way better off with a Honda K swap, the 2gr is too heavy for those cars, even being all aluminum. Honda engine has more potential too than the 2GR

Don't forget a trans that the 2GR can mate to. But again the Honda K series engines have way more potential than such a proprietary Toyota V6. Parts abound for the K series and even the lowliest stock K20A2 can hold 500whp no problem.

2gr will bolt up to the mr2 transmissions.

as for performance the 2gr has an aftermarket. its more money. but they can make good power. the bones are there for it and being its used in lotus cars theres plenty of high quality racing parts
hell stock bottom end with upgraded springs and cams will easily make 330 hp to the wheels at about 8k rpm

the engine i have has a bent rod. get some nice light weight but strong rods, do the springs and stage 2 cams and it would be a damn good performer. no turbo lag and the dual VVTI makes it make power all the way to redline

6 bolt mains. combine that with sleeveing the block and it can make some serious power

Still doesn't seem worth it when making an upwards of 800 to 1200hp can so easily be achieved with the K series, they already rev to 9500 and can make up to 320hp NA. Toyota post 2JZ era has a sad aftermarket following and everything commands a premium for even average parts.

Aren't the 1UZs built in Japan got the forged rods right? The 100 series Cruiser and the 4runner, I believe. Might be more vehicles. But that's why there weren't exploding engine issues on the Cruisers that got that blower for the 1UZ. I think.

the rods are glass. early 1uzs had thicker rods. but still not very strong
i'll never be caught dead putting a honda engine in a toyota. or a chevy engine. or a ford engine yes they can make more power. but i like to be different. plus im not wanting a turbo motor if i do a mr2. straight line performance isnt the goal. tractability is the goal

at this point thanks to gouky the 2gr swap is damn near bolt in for a MR2

Nothing is sacred. Some things have good swap options and one of the best for the MR2 and most complete too are the K series ones. I just don't really understand putting a new Toyota engine in anything, they're so proprietary and other than Lotus (that's still a weird partnership but I understand it because the British can't engineer to save their lives) none of them have aftermarkets really anymore. Only the old engines have any support and other than I6s and I4s that support is extremely limited. People who make power, NA or otherwise have abandoned Toyota... even TRD engine and trans performance parts are thin

im not shooting for high hp. the 2gr has proven extremely reliable with constant high rpm abuse. the power curve is good. and i have the engine for free. its a clean engine other than a bent rod. no damage i could see to the bolt anywhere. it still ran on 5 cylinders. it'll just be a fun little project.
