Passenger side air bag light

if no one is on the seat I have no light, but once a person sits, the air bag on lights up. Is this normal?

 

I was told recently that there's a weight sensor that activates the air bag on 3rd gens.

 

Thanks, we never noticed it on so reason asking question, I can see it coming on but one would think the light should go off after a bit

You are correct about the sensor, because if no one is sitting in the passenger no light comes on

 

That light has been there in Tacoma's for a long time, it turns on when weight is detected in the passenger side seat, if memory serves me on my 1st Gen I could put the key in the dash and turn off the passenger side airbag.
