32.6 mpg today

So I got 32.6 mpg on a 25 mile trip this morning. There was a drop of about 900 ft in elevation on my trip, with some up and down, mostly down for 3/4 of the trip. Empty bed. I maintained a speed of 65 mph most of the trip and hit five red lights.

Im learning that I don’t have to lean too hard on the pedal to maintain speed and my mpg doesn’t suffer. I don’t always have to open up the throttle and I can maintain, even up hills. Sure, I drop back on hills a bit but I’m not trying to rush anywhere or show off my speed. It a delicate dance.

I know 32 mpg is not sustainable and I’ll be back to my 19-21 highway range soon but easing off the throttle and maintaining low rpms - downward hills a plus - seem to be the the best friend to mpg.

Lol i hit over 30 mpg one time the week i bought the truck

 

You can also sit in a wagon and roll downhill with no gas needed.

 

It’s a great feeling til you watch it start to drop again. The same trip described above I sometimes hit 27 mpg but hit 32 this time.

I thought about rolling in neutral but the up and downs on my route don’t allow it.

Next time your going down hill, try the elevation in the southern hemisphere.

If you don't want the transmission sending shrapnel into the pass compartment when it explodes then I highly suggest not to do so

I've seen way to many transmission's come apart and making the pass compartment look like a grenade went off . Forward clutch drums and planetary gear sets let go when you freewheel an automatic transmission

 

I average around 15mpg. I accelerate quickly out of a stop, get to high RPMs on the highway, etc. I drive like I want and enjoy the hell out of my truck.

There’s no right or wrong approach really. Just different experiences.

 

I commute 64 miles a day and my taco wasn’t cutting it with mpg so I got a daily that gets a legit 32mpg and that’s not babying it

You must've had angels pushing the truck. Seen that in some 1990 baseball movie, has to be legit

Yes. Totally agree. My preference is not to screech out of a stop and redline it if at all possible. different approaches to driving. I drive like I want and enjoy the hell out of my truck.
