THat sucks ass man sorry to hear that shit, had mine done at the dealers OEM parts about $500 about the same time as you or older even and they still look like new,the rust amount in that vertical center area is a dead giveaway shouldnt be that rusted. If they dont come clean on it Id flip thier ass off and rant to the better business bureau and all thier customers about this shenanigan unless they got some kind of purchase receipt on them should have been in your paperwork receipt from them. Sucks ass so much BS you have to deal with in regular life now this kinda shit

Always get your old (replaced) parts back, that way you know if it's been replaced or not.
Been there, some shops really suck.

that's true also. I've been doing all my own work for so long that I just forget these things. I should really remember things like that.

although, on the flip side of that, It is a toyota shop. I'm sure they have countless sets of old rotors sitting in the scrap heap that they could "give back to me" to prove they replaced them when they didn't. I mean, if a shop is sheisty, a shop is sheisty...

Mine get rusty looking right after I wash the truck, Ide measure the thickness of the rotor's I think that there thickness when new is stamped into the rotors. Or ask where they bought them at and have the parts guy measure a new one and compare that with yours, that much rust in 3 months seems about right.

I really hope that I am making false assumptions and overreacting at nothing; that this amount of rust is indicative of 3 months use on these rotors; that the shop is honest.

we'll see when I measure them tonight.

Looking at the rust, it seems to me that it is just started crawling up the sides of the hub. For 3 months of rust, I think your fine and they were installed new.

They're just a porous metal, usually something equivalent to cast iron, which rusts very quickly under even ideal situations. Under salty conditions, add in some water and heat and you could easily see rust the next day, if not the same afternoon.

See how the holes for the lugs are elongated? Don't look like new discs to me.

Import Automotive. I live in the heights, which is inside the loop, on the north side (if you didn't already know).

    Here's reviews on the shop:
    http://maps.google.com/maps/place?o...ive&hnear=Houston,+TX&cid=2770262113918873372

totally seemed legit. Again, I'm hoping I'm just making false assumptions.

we'll see when I get to measure them.

the rotor hub does rust quickly, but those look corroded beyond 3 months use. It could be hard to tell though, measuring is best. Pretty messed up if they charged you for new, I think they are like $120 a piece.

well, I guess I was wrong. Maybe. I measured the thickness today and it came up as 21.75mm so if stock is 22mm and I assume these are lesser quality than OEM, I can also assume that 21.75mm is accurate for new rotors.

I also took a picture of the cooling vanes inside the rotor as someone suggested and they look pretty clean:

It's just really surprising considering I've seen MANY aftermarket rotors and these have rusted by far the quickest of any of them.

I suppose for now the shop's reputation remains intact. I just wish they had used a better quality part. Truck stops great though so I guess that's the important part.

as someone mentioned above, his rotors rust when he washes his truck (and mine do when i wash my car...still not a taco owner yet)...regular steel rusts when it gets wet...i don't find the amount of rust pictured to be unreasonable for three months, especially considering that view into the cooling vanes.

that seems to be the consensus. From my experience, that amount of rust is TOTALLY unacceptable, but I guess I still have a lot to learn about the Tacoma world.

I'll take a picture of my ~8 month old rotors on my VW the next time I have a wheel off to show you guys the difference. That car is a track car, just sits there during the week. There isn't a spot of rust on those rotors.

Oh, and I've washed the truck once since I bought it in May.
