So guys I am missing plugs for the rocker panel holes on my 03 Tacoma, any suggestions? I looked under my cousin's 02 Tacoma, and he is missing some, but not as much as me. There has to be some rubber plug you can get for these, to keep water/ dirt/ mud out of them. The OEM ones did not hold up, do to they are just rubber flaps. Thoughts?

i was under mine checking and have some recent rock chips but still have the original flaps. i need to get this redone or patched before winter

... under the bright halogen floor lamp
just one flap is shown but I clearly have exposed metal from the gravel chipping this past summer

That would be undercoating on it. NHOU undercoat. I sprayed it last year, and it is still on there!! I am just concerned about how the flaps are missing and water/ mud/ dirt can get inside them with the flaps missing. There must be some round rubber plugs you can buy for them. My rocker's are mint under the undercoating, no chips/ rust. Hoping some guys can chime in about options about plugs for it

I sprayed the inside of the rockers with the undercoating also. I am amazed at how well it has stayed on the truck all year long!!

my undercoating is original applied when truck was new and 22 1/2 years old now and very brittle, probably why it chipped so easily!
i will check the NHOU stuff out

Those are not plugs but thin rubber squares with adhesive on one side. DIY building supply sells a similar product for new window installation sealing.

You can get them at some auto paint stores, auto parts stores (try NAPA), or order "hole plug" kits on Amazon in the Auto section. Take some calipers and measure the hole size.

They seem to be 9/16" hole. Going to try to find some rubber flush mount plugs 9/16" for it

if my squares are still intact can i just respray some chip guard stuff under there all over without issue
i am wondering now if they sprayed my frame with the same stuff they did the rockers and under the bed long ago

there appears to be no undercoating spray (just dried mud?) on that like mine is or did you peel/scrape it all off?

IMG_20191008_145233266.jpg Rubberized or Tarlike undercoating will accelerate rust. Never used it, never will. Caked mud over FF rinses off easily. Spraying undercoating inside rocker boxes is a guaranteed fail.

that rubber undercoating is what the dealer recommended to me for winter protection long ago, one dealer service manager even told me recently they could re-undercoat it for me now lol
there is no noticeable rust under my rockers in 22 years so i think the dealer applied rubber spray did a decent job there, most likely because it was not chipped (as it is now in spots) and still sealed from moisture but who knows! I am still trying to pinpoint the epicenter on the frame because when the rubber spray came off this winter (after finally succumbing to the drive thru undercarriage wash) it started peeling off revealing crust that i know i had not ever seen during the many winters of power washing with the wand all of the road spray and chunks of artificially melting snow and ice clumped on there.
i don't think they sprayed inside the rockers, just over the top behind them

Yeah that is what mine used to be like to. But all the squares are gone. I measured with a micro meter the hole size, and they are 3/4". I am buying a 20 pack of flush sheet metal plugs for it. Should work better than the OEM flaps. The bottom of the rockers have drains in it right? Like I should probably try to flush the inside out with water and let it dry before putting in the new plugs?

That pic was from another member seeking advice before buying. The rocker box hole covers are all intact on my 2003. I won't address the drains or your choice of hole plugs. Good LuckIMG_20191008_145233266.jpg

That my friend is an undercoating spray gun with a 360 degree spray wand attachment for spraying Fluid Film rust prevention inside box frames, rocker boxes and other hard to access areas. Another answer to your "wth is this" vague question is I wont address the drains or choice or plugs because of the undesireable charictaristics of Hard Undercoating in that it clogs drains, hides rust,is not self healing, becomes brittle and cracks over time, easily damaged by pressure wands and rock chips.

i think this FF has made a mess of my truck and the work needing to be done that i am in the middle of
do you know if it will clean off easily with a powerwash, i don't know much about FF yet, have only heard about it since joining TW and have a steep learning curve it seems

i have a pic of what hard undercoating did to my truck in 22+ years, for some reason it was worse by the cat than the other drain holes

but i was unaware that the rockers have drain holes and wanted to locate where they are for inspection
