Hey Marco...... I was told by Matt to upgrade from 04B03 to 04B04. I couldn’t flash 1.05 until then. I went to my local Toyota dealer and asked for it along with the latest TSB ( 0062-18) due to poor shifting and transmission shutter. Take a sleeve of golf balls to the service manager and plead you case....haha! Cost me nothing

I want to make sure I'm summarizing this correctly...The OVT helped with the mountain passes, but ultimately Colorado folks may need to re-gear if we want the truck to perform the way we expect.

I live in Denver and head to the high country every weekend. I'm only running 265/70/17s, but the truck can't consistently hold 55mpg in 4th going up the passes. I'm tired of watching Hyndai Elantras blow past me when I'm driving up to the Eisenhower tunnel.

What kind of mpg are you getting with the 4.88s?

So in my order. Stock Truck - then 33-inch skinnies, noticed sluggishness right away. Added early version of OV 91 octane tune and it made a big difference. Was hoping to avoid a regear and it worked for over a year. I am guessing if I lived near sea level, I would be happy with just the tune but the truck still struggled in the mountains and sometimes had trouble holding 4th on the big grades - 5th and 6th just too tall as both are overdrive.

Newer versions of the tune helped but finally decided to do the 4.88. Now the truck is happy. Drives so much better. Still can't pull 5th on all the crazy grades but didn't expect it to as it's still an overdrive gear. Mileage actually improved with 4.88 and I am average 19 mpg and sometimes hit 20 mpg. Truck handles the grades so much better with gears even loaded with 3 guys and camping gear. I haven't had enough time with the latest beta 2.0 4.88 gear lock tune on the big grades but it flew up to Evergreen in the fast lane with no issues yesterday and is the best yet.

I would try tune 1st and see if it's enough for you. Then do gears. I think the tune with gears makes this truck downright fun. A good example is to put the truck in gear., let off the brake. Does it just sit there? With 4.88 gears. whether in reverse or drive, the truck just starts rolling at idle.

Stock 2017 and going to a 2.0 91 octane Tune I should expect a 50 ft/lbs increase? Going to try the tune to hold me over till spring and hopefully some more information/reviews on the twins by then.

Just pulled the trigger on this after finally reading god knows how many hours of posts on this tune (and seeing show is closing down for a month over there ha). All that said, and as someone mentioned above (I live in CO as well up in the mtns) and am constantly and consistently driving up/down mtn canyons...what is the recommended tune, 1.05 on 91?

Yep, check out post 376 on this thread. That's what @jholc21 is running and says it's great for mountain passes.

I'm going to go ahead and assume this is a stupid question. But how, with clear details, do I get this tune ordered? What is the process, price, web link, e-mail? I've tried looking, I'm just not seeing it

    ... and I neeeeeeed it

I've been on the website, the links I clicked on the website were giving me errors. Not sure if anything has changed since

Edit* this has been posted since I saw your response.

@jholc21 - After reading through all the OVT/4.88 threads I started going down the 5.29 rabbit hole. I saw some of your comments when you were debating between the two last year. What was the final thing that pushed you to 4.88? Was it mpg loss at high speed?

In this situation too.. I'm running 285's and only planning minimal front bumper and synth rope winch. I'm being told 4.88's but people rave the 5.29 overall.. hmm

I debated back and forth but since I don't have a super heavy truck, don't tow and I run a 33-inch skinny tire, I felt that 4.88 would be the sweet spot for me. I also spend time on highways in Utah that have an 80 mph speed limit. I wanted to be able to use my 4th gear on big grades when I needed it and was afraid that if the truck couldn't pull 5th up the mountain passes then I would be stuck revving super high in 4th going up the IKE Gauntlet.
With the slightly taller 4.88 vs. 5.29, my 4th is still totally usable on the highway. I understand 5th and 6th are basically overdrive gears so I didn't need the truck to stay in 5th going up against crazy grades at altitude. I was hoping to keep my mpg as close to 20 mpg as possible too. Just got back from a trip to Aspen and truck does great with these gears in Colorado. Look at it this way. 4.88 and 5.29 are both significantly better than 3.91, so either way is a win. I will say my truck has used 5th and 6th gears more in the last 5 months than the past 3 years before gears.

I didn't think I would have eventually come to this opinion based on everyone else responses.

but I don't think I can recommend this product.

I bought this nearly 4 months ago, and I still haven't been able to use it.

When I first bought it, it took more than a week to get a response back on my license to get a valid serial number. Then when I finally got my license, I had to get my computer re-image'd at the recommendation of IT.

Then time flies by, and I get too busy to deal with the tune. I tried to load the software up again two weeks ago, but now my ovtune serial number is no longer available (the email attachment doesn't seem to work anymore. I emailed OVtune a week ago, I haven't got any responses back on how to actually get a the serial number or maybe get another serial number.

Then it seems like Matt reacts so emotionally to trolls on this forum, and he does so by reducing customer service for everyone.

For example, he was helping people who bricked their ECUs for free, which is great customer service. then because of some idiots trolling him or the idiots just being all around jerks on something not even related to failed ECU, he just stops helping people who bricked the ECUs. Why punish everyone?

I remember multiple instances of him reacting irrationally to trolls in the same manner. It makes his customer service seem unreliable and unpredictable.

Now, I have a OVtune unit that I haven't used for nearly 4 months. I feel like I wasted 799 dollars to be honest.

There always seems to be an excuse as to why he can't attend to his customers, and he never really seems apologetic or sorry about it at all. Like the July sale delay or the fact that he is moving his warehouse.

I have always looked at Matt and his product in a positive manner, but any competition to his product would be welcomed. He behaves like monopolist.
