I regret my present 2013 reg cab, 4X4, 2.7, auto, 4X4, is "so much weaker feeling" than the 1998 reg. cab, 4X4, 2.4, 5 spd. I Never thought there could be sooo much difference. I never complained, about the old 2.4, 5 spd., & rarely shifted on hills. With this 2.7, auto. I'm constantly complaining & it's constantly shifting on any hill, most times it shifts twice. Presently checking in to changing from the orig. 4.11 gears, to 4.88 gears, Hoping the extra appx. 400 rpm. will help hill pulling power, without over revving at hwy. speed. Toyota's fault, if they only offer 1 eng. option in the reg. cab, it should have been the V-6. The 2.7 with auto. is a very weak dog. I Love the Taco, just hate the power.

Yeah as much as I love the classic combo of a small Toyota pickup and a 4cylinder engine, you have to have a manual trans behind it otherwise it's a dog.

Gearing will help, you can also slap a supercharger or even turbo on there...the 2.7l handles boost well from what I hear. Lot of options out there for it since it's been around for so long. Check out URD and LCEngineering's websites.

Well, I’m on my 4th Toyota truck so I don’t have the right to regret anything.

I regret nothing, but if I didn't have an extended warranty, I may have had a few. In the two years of owning my 2012, I've had the frame replaced due to getting rear ended, then recently, had the valve cover gaskets, steering rack and rear main seal replaced, all under warranty. Even with all that's happened to the truck, it still runs strong.

I've owned my Tacoma for the last 115k miles, now at 155k. It has been bulletproof with zero vibrations outside of the occasional wheel imbalance. It has only asked for an AC condenser and a water pump. Runs like new.
This is my first Toyota and the best vehicle I've ever had. I only wish I had bought a Tacoma sooner.

I just got my 2011 DCSB Sport. It replaced my 2002 DCSB PreRunner (needed 4x4) and I DO love my truck.

That said; I'm currently evaluating whether or not I should have bought someone else's project. The previous owner installed Icon CO's and TC UCA's, Icon 2.0's w/ resi's and Dakar HD springs. The problem is, the rear springs are way too stiff and the front co's have too much pre-load. Further, the co's and shocks need to be rebuilt. To be fair, the seller did disclose this. I immediately had to replace the LCA's, due to bushing failure and now I'm planning to remove a leaf and one of the overload springs from the rear to reduce the spring rate along with the amount of lift.

Again, it's a good truck, but I wonder if I wouldn't have been better spending less money to get a stock truck and then build it the way I wanted...

So far it has all been a lot of learning opportunists, but if i had to pick a regret it would have been not getting a roof rack. I could have really used it over the years.

Wanna trade regrets? I regret my roof rack. Mostly because I had to drill it on so I'm stuck with it unless I want to do some patch work/painting. Kills my MPGs with the lights mounted to the front too, and it rattles pretty bad despite every bolt on it being tight.

Oh gezz that sounds bad, sorry for your rack pain.
I originally needed a rack to bolt on my awning, but instead I made some mounts out of scrap metal and used the pre-drilled holes in the roof. Worked out great, solid as a rock for years now.

Other than that taco is a great DD that goes through snow well and gets 420 miles per tank. 223k miles were mostly trouble free.
