Do you know how to verify which version of Entune you have. I have looked at account and head unit and want to check.

We have Entune 3 on our Camry. Entune 2 on the Tacoma looks entirely different. No 2016-2019 has 3.

Let me make it easy for you. If you have a 3rd gen Tacoma with a factory system, you do not have Entune 3.0.

JBL with Nav in my 17 sounds great. As for Apple, l will leave that to my iPhone and do not care about android. My next Taco will have the Apple car play.

I priced my 16 JBL head unit From Toyota to be around $4000. Can’t imagine the 2020 head unit being any cheaper....

I recently rented a Kia that had CarPlay. First, it required a USB connection ... no wireless (BT) though I think the screen said that Android could be used wirelessly. Second, the Kia screen was small and had other info on it, so it didn’t really mirror the iPhone “look”, though some (not all) iPhone commands were usable. Overall, it was disappointing, though more time and familiarity with it might have improved the experience, but not significantly better than the Entune 2.0? on my 2016 JBL and nav Taco. For navigation, I do prefer Google to the Toyota nav, but if I play the Google directions to my head unit over BT, but look at the map and current location on the Taco nav, it works adequately. Of course I am from a generation that navigated in Paris London and LA and New York with paper maps ... while driving.

Why people continue to believe that apple car play will be available on 16-19 models?! It’s never going to happen. It requires complete overhaul of the infotainment system which Toyota will not do, they still need to make sales on 2020+ models, and there is not much appeal in updated 2020 Tacoma, they got to keep it as exclusive feature for the 2020 year.

Case closed, Toyota will not install apple car play on 16-19 stock infotainment system.

Well hello! I didn't know Toyota Corporate had an account here on TW who could make definitive, official statements. Strange username for a corp though...

Being slightly more serious, in the 2020 threads that came out after the announcements, a user who claimed to be an engineer who worked on the Tacomas said the new radio would be install-able into older 3rd Gens with the addition of a special extra wiring harness that will be needed. So, yes, of course Toyota isn't going to update our existing Entune 2.0 units, but you will be able to retrofit it if you are truly that motivated and willing to spend the $$$$.

:spy: to the first part & yep, I remember a member here mentioned that new HU can be swapped with additional installation of a microphone (current won’t work). So there is that, but that’s not a software update that Toyota will do for free or at “low” rate.

Not to stir the pot or revive a dead thread here.
Today I was getting my head unit in my 2018 replaced old one shit the bed. The service advisor said they did a 70 dollar 3 hour software update that would give me CarPlay and android auto. No sure how much truth id put into this but just putting it out for others to decide.
The service department is Camelback Toyota in Phoenix.

    LMAO

I’ll get on it. I haven’t done the “update” yet. But for $70 I’ll make a personal sacrifice for the community here

I thought that car play was a software thing that could installed on my 17 but I was told it’s an entirely different head unit.

You can buy an aftermarket one that has cp for a ton less than the oem unit.

I was under the same impression about it being a whole new unit. So I made a sly comment after getting it replaced saying I was hoping they would have put the new one in. That’s when the advisor said they had that software update thing. Honestly it’s 70 bucks to try it. If my head unit doesn’t have the ability to do CarPlay/Android Auto. I’ll just attempt to dispute the cost.:notsure:
