To all new Taco owners that wish to oil/ under guard etc. the truck before the 1st snowfall and are thinking of installing the Pop and Lock for the tailgate, make this your 1st mod. I finally got around to installing today and it took hours instead of minutes just because everything was covered in oil. I had to continuously wipe my hands in order to keep from getting all my tools dirty and from contaminating the wires. I was not able to line the tailgate with any sound deadener because of the excessive oil but did put a layer of foam(laminate flooring underlay) between the actuator and the bracket as well as a 1'x2' layer above the lock on the exterior of the tailgate.

 

I went the DIY method for about $20 and only took about an hour, including making my own mount solution and pull.

I also didn’t have the grease issue you seem to. Not sure what the hell they did to the inside of your tailgate?!

 

I'm in SW Ontario and there is salt ready available under Lake Huron so they have been spreading it on the roads in the winter for about 75 years now. No smart vehicle owner would go without oiling/ undercoating their vehicle each year to keep the rust gremlins away. Mine is WELL oiled.

 

Glad we don’t do that nonsense here, although I could do without the summer chip sealing.

I bought some of this Techron complete fuel system cleaner. Never tried it but the dealership wanted almost $500 to clean. So what do you guys think. Stuff any good?

 

I'm originally from Chicago, so I'm very familiar with salt and what it does to car bodies. I've been living in Dallas/Fort Worth for 30+ years so I kinda forget the salt issues up north. Just the other day I commented to my wife how all the vehicles here look so clean.

 

New basket on my truck. I added a Yakima OffGrid Medium size rack to the top of my CBI racks. Quail/Duck season starts next Saturday. I now have room for dog crate(s) below and hunting gear above.

I've used it many years in my cars, trucks and motorcycles, mostly as a preventative measure.
Heard a lot of good things about it but I have no scientific proof other than that I've never had a fuel system related problem.
It's cheap insurance relatively...IMO.

 

Did some exploring in the desert. Debating getting a roof rack next.

 

@tandemgeek very good advice. Thanks for getting into details about your experience with sounds deadening and showing us the pictures of how you laid out the material. I’m planning on insulating the cab in the near future and will probably reopen the tailgate to line it with left over materials.

A few open questions to the group:

Is there a way to get ARE remote locks beside the dealer? cost? Install?

Sound deadening; Aside from the audio benefits, have you noticed better climate retention? Any other side benefits? Detriments?

Got the " SHELF " about done. Need to install lights down below. I'm old, I'm a hook and slide kind of guy.

 

Cleaned up the Hi-Lift option for my rails on my Decked system. I didn't want to drill holes into the Decked unit which would cause leaks (I know it is under a canopy... I am in a very wet climate and wet gear is thrown in the back all of the time.) I wanted to get my Hi-Lift out of the drawer along with shovel, axe, baseplate, and UniJack.

Solid as a rock, super happy with how everything turned out. I had to cut a notch into the baseplate a little bit in order to fit around the cleat in the bed. I also used the Dominion Off Road Hi-Lift shovel and axe mount.

Now I just need to figure out a way to get my maxtrax onto this pile of recovery.

 

Don't forget to put that little vinyl sticker over the lock! Keeps the dirt out so not to plug it up!

 

Egr flares good sir...they install super easy right over your factory flares no damage

 

Do these also have the amber lights in them that indicate when your close to something on either side of the truck

 

Not sure but did you notice that sweet white taco in the background telling you what to replace it with if it is totaled
